GOLDEN, Colo. – The United Soccer Coaches Association recently released its All-Region Teams for Division II soccer, and the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer program added some more accolades to its postseason ledger, with three players being named to the organization's two All-South Central Region squads.
Jordan Barnhart and
Reese McDermott were both named First Team honorees while
Laura Butler was tabbed as a Second Team selection.
Barnhart, the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-RMAC selection, was a dual-threat force for Mines this season, anchoring a back line that held opponents to less than a goal per game and allowed just 9.7 shots per game. On offense, she scored six times this season and assisted on an additional three and was a perfect 3-3 from the penalty mark this season. One of just two players to start all 23 matches in 2022, she scored in five matches and tallied an assist in another three.
McDermott, a First Team All-RMAC and First Team All-Academic honoree, led the team with 15 goals and ranked among the top 15 nationally in scoring this season. She scored in seven of Mines' last 11 matches and has scored in 11 of the 21 matches she has played in, including three multi-goal outings. Two seasons into her career, she already finds her name in the record books in goals scored (23, t-5
th), points scored (50, t-8
th) and game-winning goals (7, t-6
th).
Butler, also a First Team All-RMAC selection and two-time Offensive Player of the Week this season, was the second-leading point scorer for the Orediggers this season with 20 behind seven goals and six assists, both of which ranked second on the team. She scored five game-winning goals this season and recorded a point in 10 of 21 matches this season, scoring in seven matches, assisting in four and doing both on one occasion in the season opener.
