OREDIGGERS CLOSE 2022 IN INDIANAPOLIS
Colorado School of Mines heads to Indiana this weekend to finish 2022 at the 43rd Midwest Classic, hosted by the University of Indianapolis. The bracketed individual tournament is always a mid-season highlight on the D-II wrestling calendar with a competitive field. Mines will fill every weight class with entrants when wrestling begins Saturday at 10 a.m. ET, and they'll hope to advance to Sunday's session which will also begin at 10 a.m. ET. Live results and video (for subscribers) are available on Trackwrestling.

LAST TIME OUT
Mines remained perfect in dual action with wins over San Francisco State and Fort Hays State back on Dec. 2. Mines cruised 30-9 over SFSU in their RMAC opener, then beat Fort Hays State 32-11. The Orediggers were led by 2-0 nights from Grayston DiBlasi, Carter Noehre, Jack Damenti, Ryan Cody, and Deandre Rucker. DiBlasi picked up two wins by fall.

LAST YEAR
Mines finished 16th at last year's Midwest Classic with two placewinners in Indianapolis. Advancing five wrestlers to Sunday, Mines had Weston Hunt end up sixth at 285 and Anderson Salisbury seventh at 184. Cody Thompson, Carter Noehre, and Ryan Fidel also advanced to the second day.

IN THE POLLS
Mines is receiving votes in the first regular-season NWCA coaches' poll, with Anderson Salisbury being the Orediggers' lone ranked wrestler at #6 at 197. In the latest Open Mat rankings, Mines is #25 in the dual team rankings and has four wrestlers in the individual top-20:  Weston DiBlasi (#17 at 125), Grayston DiBlasi (#12 at 141), Carter Noehre (#19 at 157), and Salisbury (#5 at 197).

LEADING THE WAY
The Orediggers have selected four captains for the 2022-23 season: Jack Damenti, KJ Kearns, Tyler Krause, and Anderson Salisbury. Both Kearns and Salisbury are returning captains from the 2021-22 season.

MOVING ON UP
Anderson Salisbury continues to rack up wins in his career, and the two-time all-American can join an elite club this weekend. At 69-22 all-time in his career, Salisbury is close to becoming the 18th wrestler in program history to reach 70 wins, a mark most recently achieved by former teammates Weston Hunt (78) and Robert Gambrell (73).

LOOKING AHEAD
Mines will open the new year in Gunnison, wrestling at the Western Colorado Open Jan. 6 and then the Tracey Borah Duals on Jan. 7.
