Final Brackets
GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines had six placewinners as it wrapped up the regular season with the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open at Steinhauer Fieldhouse.
Seniors
Aidan Funk and
Mike True finished second and third in their weight classes, respectively, to highlight the day for the Orediggers.
Mines had two competitors at 141 with
Wes Rayburn and
Teague Dilbeck. Rayburn came back to take fifth going 4-2 on the day; he had a pair of 9-1 major decisions, including one in the fifth-place match against Air Force's Bradley Bitting, to highlight his day. Dilbeck went 1-2 after winning his opener 9-3.
Tristin David went 4-2 to take fourth at 157 pounds, grabbing two wins by fall and another major decision before advancing to the third-place match on a medical forfeit.
Dylan Yancey made a run to the 157 semifinals with an overtime win over Adams State's Dominic Helbok and a fall over CSU-Pueblo's Richard Palomar before dropping out in a match-up against David; Yancey ultimately took fifth.Â
In his final tournament as an Oredigger, Funk found his way into the 174-pound final with a 3-1 day that included a pin of Adams State's Diego Duarte, an overtime win over Chadron State's Javen Palmer, and a 9-1 major against Air Force's Brooks Gable in the semis before dropping a 3-2 decision in the final to Utah Valley's Hunter Morse.
Levi Farris wrestled all the way back from an opening-round loss to take fourth at 174 pounds, going 4-2 on the day including two major decisions. Garret Bakarich was 2-2 at 174 as well.
True ended his Mines career a winner, taking third at 285 pounds in a 5-1 tournament. After a first-period fall to start his day, True's only loss sent him to the consolation side of the bracket and he ran off three straight wins to make the third-place bout, where he defeated Western Colorado's Zach Schraeder 5-3.Â
Daniel Caddy was 0-2 at 149 as were
Grant Crownhart and
Wyatt Lewis at 165 and
Anthony Atria at 285.Â
Mines' next action will be at the NCAA Super Region VI Championship in Grand Junction on Feb. 26.Â
