Mines Drops Twinbill At CSU Pueblo

GAME 1 - CSU PUEBLO 5, MINES 2

CSU Pueblo produced four runs over its last three at-bats to beat Colorado School of Mines, 5-2, in Sunday's opener.

Leadoff hitter Renata Boyd went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead Mines at the plate, with Kayleigh Krueger and Emilee Sloan driving in runs. Starting pitcher Katelynn Ralston helped herself as she led the Thunderwolves with three RBI.

Ralston's squeeze bunt in the first put the Pack on the board, but Sloan answered with her first career home run to lead off the third before Krueger's sacrifice fly to plate Boyd gave Mines the lead, 2-1, after three.

Pueblo tied the game back up at 2-2 with Delaney Barela's bunt single in the fourth to score Ashley Tosh, and Ralston's two-run single put them ahead 4-2 in the fifth before Tosh's infield single added an insurance run. Mines left two in scoring position in the sixth.

Ralston struck out four and allowed one earned in the win. Cassidy Chvatal took the loss in 4.0 innings allowing two runs with three Ks, and Lauren Decker pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

GAME 2 - CSU PUEBLO 5, MINES 4

CSU Pueblo walked off with a win for the second time in the series, scoring two runs in the seventh to win 5-4.

Mines held a 4-1 lead after the top of the fifth, but the Pack scored two in the bottom of the fifth and then two in the seventh for the victory. Ashley Tosh went 2-for-4 including the walkoff for the Thunderwolves; Hannah Roberts led Mines going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Kailey Robb was a perfect 3-for-3.

A double steal in the first got Mines on the board as Roberts came across as Kayleigh Krueger swiped second, but CSUP's Raelynn Rogers tied it 1-1 with a sacrifice squeeze bunt. Mines retook the lead with a three-run fifth as Krueger, Grace Gonzales, and Trystin Oshiro-Sano knocked in runs on consecutive at-bats, but the home side rallied with Jocelyn Garcia's solo home run and Izzy Griego's RBI grounder to cut it to 4-3 in the fifth. In the seventh, Katelynn Ralston singled in Searra Arellano to tie the game, and Tosh ended it with a single to the right-center gap to bring in Rogers.

Both teams used two pitchers as reliever Taylor Strupp (2.2 IP, 0 ER) earned the win in relief of Jacelynn Trujillo (4.1 IP, 2 ER). Mines started Sadriena Rodriguez allowed two earned through four, with Lauren Decker being charged with the loss in 2.1 innings of relief.
