#21 MINES VISITS CHADRON STATE IN KEY RMAC DUAL
For their third straight outing, #21 Colorado School of Mines will take on an unbeaten RMAC opponent as they visit Chadron State (5-2, 4-0 RMAC) this Sunday for a conference dual. The Orediggers (6-2, 4-1 RMAC) are hunting for a win to give themselves a chance to get back in the championship picture.
LAST TIME OUT
Mines split its two duals last weekend, beating Western Colorado 22-17 before falling at #16 Colorado Mesa 19-12.
Perry Rodenbeck's pin at 197 won it for Mines on Saturday at Western as
Tyler Krause also had a fall,
Grayston DiBlasi a major decision, and
Carter Noehre and
Anderson Salisbury decision victories. It was tough going at CMU as
Wes Rayburn,
Jack Damenti, Salisbury, and
Weston Hunt all won by decision but Mesa took six bouts in their victory.
THE RMAC HUNT
Mines is currently third in the RMAC dual standings at 4-1 with both Colorado Mesa and Chadron State in first at 4-0. Those two have yet to wrestle each other, and Mesa takes on Adams State (2-2) Friday night as well. The Orediggers have just Chadron State and CSU Pueblo (1-3) left on the slate.
IN THE POLLS
Mines sits at #21 in the latest NWCA Division II poll, with Colorado Mesa at #16 and Western Colorado receiving votes. Mines has two ranked individuals as
Anderson Salisbury sits at #11 at 184 and
Weston Hunt #5 at 285; CSC has #10 Mason Watt at heavyweight as well.Â
DIBLASI EARNS RMAC HONOR
Freshman
Grayston DiBlasi was named the RMAC Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday after upsetting #10 Dean Noble of Western Colorado last Saturday in a 10-2 major decision. DiBlasi leads Mines in wins at 18-4 this season, including 5-0 in duals at 141 pounds with 21 team points.
THE MINES VS. CHADRON STATE SERIES
This will be the 37th all-time meeting between Mines and Chadron State in a series dating back to 1962. Although CSC leads all-time 24-10-2, Mines has won three in a row. The two did not wrestle last year but Mines won their last meeting in 2020 27-9 with
Perry Rodenbeck and
Jack Damenti the only current Orediggers to have wrestled in that meet.Â
LEADING THE WAYÂ
This year's team is led by
KJ Kearns,
Zach Krause, and
Anderson Salisbury, who were voted captains in the preseason. Kearns is a returning captain as a junior, while Krause is a first-time captain in his second season as a graduate transfer after arriving from Brown before the 2019-20 season. Salisbury is also a first-time captain in his redshirt senior season.
LOOKING AHEAD
Mines will return home to host CSU Pueblo for Senior Day on Feb. 12. The Orediggers will also host the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open on Feb. 13 at Steinhauer Fieldhouse to end the regular season.
