Orediggers Split Sunday With Fort Lewis

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines and Fort Lewis played two games that couldn't have been more different as they split their doubleheader Sunday at Joe Coors, Jr. Field.

Kayleigh Krueger's record-tying three doubles paced Mines in a 12-1 run-rule victory to start the day, but Fort Lewis jumped on Oredigger defensive miscues to win the finale 11-2 in five. Mines won the series after sweeping Saturday's games.

GAME 1 - MINES 12, FORT LEWIS 1 (5 inn.)
The Orediggers pounded eight extra-base hits including seven doubles as they cruised to a 12-1 win in five innings to start Sunday.

Kayleigh Krueger went 3-for-3 - all doubles - and scored three times while the middle of the Oredigger lineup pounded Skyhawk pitching with Krueger, Sara Larson, and Hannah Roberts each driving in two runs and Lexie Semeyn three out of the seventh spot.

Krueger became the fifth player in program history to double three times in a game, tying the single-game record most recently done by Kara Jones in 2017.

Lauren Decker (3-5) picked up the win with a strong start, striking out four and allowing one run on only three hits. Sadriena Rodriguez threw the fifth inning in a non-save situation and did not allow a hit. Cat Rodman (0-7) took the loss for FLC allowing 12 runs - six earned - off 11 hits.

Mines scored early and often with a four-run first inning that saw Renata Boyd come across in a wild pitch before Krueger doubled in Sidney Wilson and Semeyn tripled in two more runs later in the inning. Katie Pippel's RBI double in the second proved to be the Skyhawks' only run as Mines poured it on in their last two at-bats. A two-run third started when Larson drove in Krueger and Roberts scored Larson to lead 6-1, and things came unraveled for Fort Lewis as Mines produced a six-run fourth inning. The Orediggers hit five doubles in the inning, including four in a row at one point as Krueger, Larson, Roberts, Semeyn, Ellaena Rodriguez, and Grace Gonzales all had RBI.

GAME 2 - FORT LEWIS 11, MINES 2 (5 inn.)
Fort Lewis turned things around to end the series with a win as they beat Mines 11-2 in the afternoon.

The Orediggers were hurt by three errors, allowing eight unearned runs in the game as the Skyhawks generated eight hits and had two big innings to pull away. Jadyn Gilley's three RBI led the Skyhawks, while Renata Boyd went 3-for-3 with a RBI out of the leadoff spot for Mines.

Scoreless heading into the third, the game quickly turned FLC's way when a leadoff error turned into a run on Cat Rodman's single to score Sloane Shotton, and Katie Pippel's double brought in two more runs. Cara Daugherty tripled and Jadyn Gilley doubled to make it 5-0, but Mines pulled a run back in the bottom half of the third on Sidney Wilson's RBI single to plate Renata Boyd.

Fort Lewis again too advantage of an error-extended inning to score four in the fourth, with a dropped infield popup that would've ended the inning instead resulting in bases loaded for Sydney Stewart to draw a walk, Daughtery a hit-by-pitch, and then Gilley a two-run double to blow the game open at 9-1.

Boyd's sharp single off the pitcher in the bottom of the fourth made it 9-2, but Shotton homered to lead off the fifth and Stewart's single later in the inning scored another run.

Amiee Shanks (5-5) allowed two and struck out two in the win. Taylor Wayne (2-4) was charged with the loss allowing two earned out of five runs; none of Cassidy Chvatal's four runs allowed were earned in an inning of relief and Sadriena Rodriguez threw the final 1.1 innings allowing two, one earned.
