Baker, Sullivan Named President's Senior Scholar-Athletes

GOLDEN, Colo. - Women's cross country/track & field's Zoe Baker and men's basketball's Brendan Sullivan and w have been honored as the Spring 2022 President's Senior Scholar-Athletes. 

Awarded twice annually prior to the May and December commencement ceremonies, the prestigious accolade is given to one male and one female undergraduate student-athlete who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and the leadership qualities of an exemplary student-athlete. Michael Glen (men's basketball) and Heather Keniry (women's cross country/track & field) won the awards in December 2021.

Baker is a dual degree recipient in computer science and computational and applied mathematics, and Sullivan is earning his bachelor's degree in civil engineering this week. The pair were honored at a pre-Commencement awards brunch on May 12. 

Baker has had a decorated career on the course, track, and classroom, earning two CoSIDA Academic All-America awards, four RMAC Academic Athlete of the Year honors, four RMAC Summit Awards, two NCAA Elite 90 nods and numerous other academic distinctions. A native of Longmont, Colo., Baker became the first Oredigger woman to win individual gold at the RMAC Cross Country Championships while guiding Mines' women to their first two podium appearances at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. She boasts eight USTFCCCA All-America honors across cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field, touts a total three individual RMAC titles and eight First-Team All-RMAC performances. Baker owns four program records in the 3K, indoor 5K, outdoor 5K and 10K and three facility records in the indoor 5K, outdoor 5K and the 10K. In addition to this award, Baker was named the William D. Waltman 1899 Award winner and the Applied Mathematics & Statistics' department's outstanding graduating senior. 

Sullivan established himself as one of the nation's top men's basketball student-athletes during his career at Colorado School of Mines, playing four decorated seasons for the Orediggers. A native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Sullivan is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and two-time RMAC Academic Player of the Year as both a junior and senior. Also a 2021 NABC All-American, Sullivan led Mines to the 2021 NCAA Elite Eight and national #1 ranking earning NABC National Player of the Year finalist status and RMAC Player of the Year honors. He has earned First-Team All-RMAC honors in each of past three seasons, as well. Over his four-year career, Sullivan has scored 1,509 points with 508 rebounds, 218 assists, and 127 steals, starting all four years at small forward.
