The first all-American in Mines Volleyball's decorated history and the catalyst behind an unprecedented run of success for the program,
Jackie Stabell is the first member to be announced in the Mines Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
A two-time all-American, Stabell was a member of four NCAA Tournament-qualifying teams and paced the Orediggers to the first of what would become four consecutive RMAC regular-season championships in 2012. The 2012 RMAC Player of the Year set records along the way from her outside hitter position, establishing herself as the program's all-time kills leader over her four-year career.
Stabell's impressive production included 1,516 kills (a Mines record that stood until 2017), 98 aces (seventh all-time), and 3,706 career attacks (fifth all-time). Her 29 kills in a 2011 match at Nebraska-Kearney is still tied for the Mines single-match record, and she appears a dozen times overall in the Mines recordbook, including two of the top seven entries all-time for kills in a season and two of the top five entries for hitting percentage in a match.Â
Stabell immediately became a starter as a freshmen in 2009, hitting 300 kills as a rookie to help Mines go 22-10 (to that point a program record for wins) and qualify for the NCAA Tournament for only the second time ever and first time since 2005. Mines again qualified for the postseason with a 19-win 2010 season as Stabell notched 344 kills and hit .276, but 2011 proved to be a breakout season as Stabell earned AVCA Third-Team All-America honors and was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team leading the Orediggers to their first-ever NCAA win with her epic 29-kill performance in the NCAA First Round at #4-ranked UNK.Â
As a senior in 2012, Stabell led the Orediggers to the program's first-ever RMAC regular-season championship as the team went 26-7 overall and 17-2 in-conference. She earned a bevy of honors including AVCA Second-Team All-America, RMAC Player of the Year, RMAC Academic Player of the Year, and Daktronics Regional Player of the Year after throwing down 434 kills and hitting .270 to go with 138 digs, 61 blocks, and 22 aces. Mines advanced to the NCAA Second Round for a second consecutive season. That 2012 season would spark an unprecedented run of four straight RMAC regular-season crowns for the Orediggers, who would go on to be the decade's dominant program in the conference with six titles overall in a seven-year span.Â
A native of Tomball, Texas, Stabell graduated from Mines with degrees in mechanical engineering and economics, and is now a Senior Production Engineer with Encino Energy in Houston.Â
