#17 Mines Notches Fourth Straight Shutout

GOLDEN, Colo. - #17 Colorado School of Mines produced its fourth straight shutout as three different goalscorers powered a 3-0 win over Black Hills State. 

The Orediggers (6-1-1, 3-0-0 RMAC) continued their hot start to the season with their fourth consecutive win and shutout. Mines outshot the visitors 23-2 and had a huge 12-0 corner advantage

Laura Butler's eighth-minute goal got the home side off to a flying start, right-footing Afton Rasco's cross for the lead. Mines poured on chances the rest of the half but it wasn't until Amena Nelson drew a foul at the top of the box in the 38th minute that they would cash in. Brooke Pennington lined up over the free kick and curled a spectacular ball inside the upper right corner for the 2-0 lead.

Pennington had a hand in creating Mines' third goal, as well, crossing a broken-up throw-in back to the box for Kaitlyn Manalili's touch to Katie Koehler, who chipped a crowd inside the six for the 3-0 lead on the hour. Mines had several other dangerous chances later in the half including Jordan Barnhart's corner header off the crossbar.

NOTABLES
- Butler tallied her fifth of the season while Pennington scored her second and Koehler her first. 
- Rasco extended her consecutive points streak to four matches with her assist; she has two goals and two assists in that span and has points in six of eight matches in 2022. 
- Manalili's assist was her first collegiate point. 
- The Orediggers extended their home unbeaten streak to 22 matches (18-0-4) dating back to the 2019 season, the second-longest such streak in program history. 
- The Mines defense extended their shutout streak to four consecutive matches and 383:04 dating back to the Dallas Baptist match on Sept. 3. 
- Emma Carstens made one save in 71 minutes of work, while Allie Lundgren made her collegiate debut in the second half working 19 clean minutes. 
- Mines improved to 7-0 all-time against the Yellow Jackets.

NEXT UP
In a rare split weekend, Mines will head back on the road to visit MSU Denver on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
