COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES 33, NEWMAN 12
Mines won its final three bouts, including a pin-pin finish from
Anderson Salisbury and
Anthony Atria, to run away with a 33-12 win over Newman in the opener of the Midwest Duals at Nebraska-Kearney.
In a dual that was closer than the final score would indicate, Mines led by just six points through seven bouts before putting it away at the end. The Orediggers benefited from the two falls as well as a pair of Newman forfeits at 157 and 165.
Christian Lopez and
Weston DiBlasi got Mines off to a winning start thanks to 9-3 and 9-6 decisions at 125 and 133, respectively, but Newman took the lead back on Colby Schreiner's fall over Will LOecke at 141 and Hunter Dietrich's 3-1 win over
Carson Dulitz at 149. The two forfeits, however, put Mines back in front before the Jets pulled closer as JD Johnson outlasted
Levi Farris 10-8 at 174.
That made it an 18-12 dual through seven matches before
Ryan Cody earned a 12-6 win over Vincenzo Oliva at 184, and Salisbury needed just 2:21 to win his 197-pound bout before Atria earned a second-period fall of his own.
