PUEBLO, Colo. – Looking for more of the same from 10 days ago, the Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team returned to the road Sunday to once more match up with #7 CSU Pueblo in the second of two regular-season meetings between the schools. Unfortunately for the Orediggers (1-3-5, 0-1-1), the day did not bring the same success as the night, falling to the ThunderWolves (8-1-1, 2-0-0) by a score of 3-0.
It took 58 seconds for CSUP to score the first goal of the day, as Ignatius DeMark scored from Caio Oliviera to take the early lead. Mines managed to recollect themselves defensively, and allowed just two shots for the remainder of the first half. Gabe Rodriguez,
Ian Kugler and
Chris Seery all logged shot attempts in the in half, but it was Kugler's second that looked to get the Orediggers back to even right before the half in the 43rd minute, but Tristan Whitlock made the save as both team went to the intermission.
The ThunderWolves doubled their lead less than five minutes into the second period when Gabriel Campora converted a penalty kick after a foul was whistled on the Orediggers inside the box on a hard challenge following a free kick.
CSUP made it 3-0 in the 75th minute after forcing a turnover deep in the Orediggers own end as Alon Firdman played a ball across the mouth of the goal to Campora who scored his second goal of the day.
Despite going to the bench in the closing minutes, Mines couldn't overcome the deficit, falling by a final of 3-0.
