Orediggers Suffer Road Loss in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision on Saturday night at the hands of South Dakota Mines inside the King Center.

A total of 25 kills came off the combined hands of Madison Glassco and Rose Stuewe. Glassco notched 13 kills and had seven digs. Stuewe accounted for 12 kills on 38 attempts. Also notable on offense was Emma Smithey's eight kills on .300 hitting. Defensively, Jada Price walked away with 21 digs, averaging more than 5.0 digs per set. Emily Knight, Veronique Magnan, and Smithey all notched two total blocks apiece. Presley Powell provided a highlight as well, putting up a 39-assist, 10-dig double-double.

The Orediggers (8-8, 2-4 RMAC) were held to .164 on the attack, but it was 10 service aces by South Dakota Mines (11-6, 5-2 RMAC) that doomed Colorado School of Mines. That being said, the Orediggers did record five total blocks and three service aces of their own. The Hardrockers closed out the win by hitting over .400 in the final set. Ivy Vindivich matched Glassco's 13 kills and Alessandra Meoni matched Stuewe's 12 kills to lead SDM. Hannah Benes put up 26 digs and three service aces as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first three sets of the night were decided by a total of eight points. South Dakota Mines won the first two games by identical scores of 25-22. Neither team led by more than three points in the opening frame. The maximum margin in the second frame was four. After two sets, Stuewe touted eight kills and Price had 10 digs, but SDM boasted eight service aces. It was four kills apiece from Stuewe and Glassco along with 15 Powell assists and seven digs from Price that helped the visitors avoid the sweep. Four more kills by Smithey in the fourth set proved inconsequential as South Dakota Mines hit .438 and held the Orediggers to a .051 attack percentage. The result was a 25-14, match-clinching win for the Hardrockers.
