PUEBLO, Colo. – It took extra points on Friday night for the Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team to be kept from a decisive fifth set as the Orediggers dropped a 3-1 decision at CSU Pueblo.
Box score leaders included
Naomi Romslo with 11 kills and
Madison Glassco with 10 kills.
Jada Price also had 21 digs and
Presley Powell dished out 42 assists. Also notable were three blocks apiece for
Allison Jansen and
Emily Knight. Team numbers included a .179 hitting percentage for Mines (9-9, 3-5 RMAC) while CSU Pueblo (9-10, 7-2 RMAC) converted at a .331 clip. The biggest discrepancies were an 8-3 advantage in service aces and 12-7 lead in blocks, both for the home team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first two sets of the night were all CSU Pueblo as the ThunderWolves battled to defend their home court. Four blocks and two service aces kept Mines in check in the opening set as The Pack earned a 25-11 win. The Orediggers avoided the block and returned the serve better in game two, but the home team hit .387 to claim a 25-14 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
With a straight-set loss on the line, Mines avoided the sweep thanks to an attack percentage of .341 in the third frame. Romslo had six kills on .500 hitting. Jansen had five kills and Stuewe added four kills as well. Price drove the defense on five digs. That fueled a fourth set in which the Orediggers found themselves leading, 22-17, but a 9-2 run by the ThunderWolves squashed all hopes of a fifth set and a reverse sweep. CSU Pueblo won the fourth set, 26-24, and claimed the match.
