GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.
– The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams started the TYR CMU Invitational with a bang on Wednesday thanks to outstanding performances from Luca Burns, Isabella Bono, Lucas Hoke, and Joseph Lev-Tov inside El Pomar Natatorium.

After one evening of action, Mines' men are second out of five teams with 188 points. The #22-ranked Oredigger men sit just two points back of #3-ranked Colorado Mesa. Mines' women stacked up 118 points which proved good enough for second after one session of swimming. The #2-ranked Colorado Mesa women also lead their respective field. The rest of the rankings on the men's side include Adams State in third, NCAA Division I Wyoming in fourth, and DI Utah in fifth. In the women's standings, DI Northern Arizona is third, DI Wyoming is fourth, CSU Pueblo is fifth, and Adams State is sixth.

Burns ignited the first piece of dynamite on the evening for Mines' men as he broke the program's 50-back record while swimming leadoff in the men's 200-medley relay. His 22.50 split bested Sam LaPrade's mark of 22.59 at the NCAA championships last season. The next proverbial Oredigger explosion came in the 1000-free as Isabella Bono, Lucas Hoke, and Joseph Lev-Tov all posted NCAA "B" times. Bono's 10:32.87 was good enough for fourth place on the women's side. The true freshman Hoke touched the wall in 9:36.69 and his classmate Lev-Tov finish in 9:38.94 to go #4 and #5, respectively, in the men's race.

Mines found scoring in all races to keep the men and women second in the team standings. Two 200-medley relays scored for the women thanks to Emma Neuroth, Camryn Schmidt, Jorie Selig, Annie Osmun, Kerrigan Hemp, Jordan Tierney, and Sarah Bennett. The Oredigger men had a pair of 200-medley relays stack up points as well with Burns, Garrett Waite, Seth Krause, Jakson Winn, Braden Hunt, Jack Engler, Mattie Oberley, and Kevin Burns joining the fun. Additional individuals racking up points for Mines included Julie Gill, Jaron O'Grady, Jake Sherman, Oberley, Scott Reeder, Andres Saa, and Ronan Lauinger.

Two women's 800-freestyle relays and two men's 800-free relays rounded out the scoring for the night for the Orediggers. Olivia Kisow, Osmun, Maggie Wells, Kylie VanderMeer, Sophia Buhr, Emi Jedryka, Jules Hays, Gill, Gavin Moore, Kietzman, Lauinger, Sherman, Gavin Gilmore, Saa, Hoke, and O'Grady participated in those team events.

The Oredigger men and women continue the TYR CMU Invitational on Thursday with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. Events slated for the day include the 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free, and the 200-freestyle relay. There will be live video on the RMAC Network and live results offered at www.minesathletics.com.
