Zimmermann Voted RMAC Academic Player of the Year, Collins Named All-Academic First Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Athletic conference released its All-Academic First Team for men's soccer Thursday and for the second season in a row, the Colorado School of Mines landed the Academic Player of the Year, as Marc Zimmermann was voted to league's top academic in 2023 while Quin Collins landed the second scholar-athlete honor of his career from the league as he was named First Team All-Academic.
 
Zimmermann takes home the first academic honors from the RMAC in his career and had a breakout season in his second year with the Orediggers, finishing second on the team with four goals while adding two assists for 10 points. Zimmerman started 10 times in 17 matches for 833 minutes and scored in three of the first five matches of the season. He netted the game-winning goal in the second of two matches this season against Westminster on October 8 and recorded an assist in each of the final two matches of the season against MSU Denver and Colorado Christian. The native of Orsingen-Nenzingen, Germany carries a 3.932 GPA in Electrical Engineering and is the second Oredigger in as many seasons to win the award, joining Michael Sprauer who did so in 2022.
 
Collins, an RMAC Academic Honor Roll member last season, was a staple in the midfield for the Orediggers once again this season, scoring two goals to go along with two assists for six points for the second consecutive season. His goals came in back-to-back matches against South Dakota Mines and Fort Lewis as those matches were also part of a three-game stretch where he scored a point, collecting an assist against Adams State as well. Collins started 15 times in 17 matches and logged 1,363 minutes, the fourth-most on the team. He currently holds a 3.983 GPA in Quantitative Biosciences & Engineering.
 
An additional 10 Orediggers were also recognized for their efforts in the classroom and were subsequently named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll and include Hilmir Arnarsson, Raul Gerhardus, Caelin David, Grant Bell, Tommy Jernigan, John Burnett, Nathan Dreher, Gabriel Rodriguez, Marc Levin and Josef Emge.
