INDIANAPOLIS -
Wyatt Reisz and
Grayston DiBlasi placed to lead Colorado School of Mines on the final day of the 44th Midwest Classic at UIndy.
Reisz came in fifth at 174 pounds, and DiBlasi was seventh at 141 to cap a successful weekend at the elite tournament, which features a who's-who of top programs from NCAA Division II.
After running unbeaten into the semifinals on Saturday, Reisz started his day with an 11-5 setback to Grand Valley State's #10 Josh Kenney, then fell in a sudden-victory heartbreaker, 4-1, to UIndy's Trey Sizemore in the consolation semifinals. That still got Reisz into a placing match, though, and he finished with a win in the fifth-place bout by scoring a big upset over #2 Max Bruss of UMary, 5-4, for his second win over a top-three wrestler of the weekend.
DiBlasi also beat a ranked opponent, #7 Jake Niffeneger of Mercyhurst, in his first bout of the day, pinning him in 4:59, but fell to UIndy's Blake Milkey 4-1 in the consolation seventh round. That put him into the seventh-place bout where he also ended on a win, beating Lander's Isham Peace 7-5.
Christian Lopez was the only other Oredigger in action on Sunday, but fell in the consolation sixth round to UW-Parkside's #3 Shane Corrigan, 15-0.
Mines scored 47 team points to finish tied for 19th out of 51 teams at the meet.
The Orediggers return to action in the new year with a split schedule on Jan. 5 at the Western Colorado Open in Gunnison, and a tri-dual with Fort Hays State at San Francisco State.
