BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Led by
Max Lange in the top 10, Colorado School of Mines got its spring golf season off to a strong start against a nationally-elite field at the Las Vegas Desert Classic at Boulder Creek GC on Sunday.
On a difficult windy day in southern Nevada, no teams and just one individual shot under par. The Orediggers are sitting in seventh place at +17 after a team round of 305, just two strokes back of third in a field that includes 13 teams ranked in the Golfstat top 50 with four in the top 10. Colorado Christian (+11) leads with #8 Lee (+12) second and #4 Oklahoma Christian and two teams from #21 Missouri-St. Louis tied for third; the Orediggers trail #2 Barry by one stroke.
Lange came into the clubhouse tied for fifth at +1, four shots off the lead held by Missouri-St. Louis' Ian McCrary and just one shot back of a three-way tie for second. Lange's 73 included three birdies through his first seven holes.
Carter Lolli is T21 after carding 76m while
Ethan Adam and
Theodore Reitter were the third and fourth scorers each with 78s to be tied for 37th, and
Lukas Taggart wasn't far behind them coming home at 79 to be T48.
It was a good day overall for the RMAC with CCU, Mines, Colorado Mesa (+19), and CSU Pueblo (+20) all in the top 10 after 18 holes; the conference has five players in the top 10 as well, including Lange.
Monday's second round is an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start, and Mines will be paired with Missouri-St. Louis, Barry, and Colorado Mesa.
