BOULDER CITY, Nev. -
Lukas Taggart surged to a second-place finish and Colorado School of Mines moved up a spot to fifth as they closed the 2023 RMAC Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Taggart, who earned First-Team All-RMAC honors and was the top freshman in the tournament, closed a shot off the lead at -6 following a final-round 71, advancing three spots on the leaderboard from Monday. The rookie sank five birdies in his round including a crucial one on the 18th to notch three under-par rounds in the tournament playing in his native Nevada. Taggart's finish is the best by an Oredigger since George Markham was also the runner-up in 2018.

Max Lange closed out his RMACs debut with a 73 to move up six spots to T12, earning Second-Team All-RMAC status with his finish. Lange's day was highlighted by an eagle 3 on the 608-yard seventh. Ethan Adam was the next scorer for Mines at 76 as he ended T32, with Carter Lolli's 79 the final score as he was 31st. Jake Welch carded 82 as the non-counter, finishing T35.

It was a thrilling three-way team race between CSU Pueblo, Colorado Christian, and UCCS that ended with CSUP and CCU tied at -15; the two teams played a five-man, one-hole playoff with CSU Pueblo winning the RMAC championship. CCU's Xavier Bighaus won individual medalist honors at -7, a shot ahead of Taggart.

Mines had a team 299 in windy conditions as only CSUP was under par on Tuesday. That helped the Orediggers leap over Westminster for fifth at +13.

The Orediggers' season is likely over as a team, but Taggart will await to see if he is selected as an individual to the NCAA Regional Championships when that field is announced Friday.
