COLORADO SPRINGS -
Grayston DiBlasi is the RMAC Academic Wrestler of the Year to lead the annual year-end conference awards announced Thursday.
DiBlasi and
Jack Damenti were each selected as First-Team Academic All-RMAC, while seven other Orediggers -
Perry Rodenbeck,
Carson Dulitz,
Will Loecke,
KJ Kearns,
Niko Mayo,
Avery Krippner, and
Teague Dilbeck - were named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll. First-team selections must carry a 3.5 or higher GPA and be outstanding contributors on the mat, and are selected by the RMAC's sports information directors. Honor roll recipients must hold a 3.3 or greater GPA while using a season of eligibility.
DiBlasi, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, was an NCAA Championships qualifier after leading the team with a 28-7 record at 141 pounds. The regional runner-up in NCAA Super Region VI, DiBlasi co-led Mines with 11 falls and was a perfect 12-0 in dual matches including 7-0 vs. the RMAC. He spent nearly the entire season nationally ranked, peaking at #7, and placed in three tournaments overall including winning the Mines Rookie Open and seventh at the Midwest Classic.
Damenti, a sixth-year senior who is working on his doctorate in quantum engineering, earns First-Team Academic All-RMAC status for the second straight year, and appears on the RMAC academic team for the fifth time overall. The team captain closed his career with a 16-8 season as the team's 165-pound starter, going 8-2 in duals and accumulating six bonus-point wins. Damenti finished fourth at the NCAA Super Region VI Championships.
