COLORADO SPRINGS - Colorado School of Mines took home its seventh consecutive RMAC All-Sports Cup to highlight an Oredigger-flavored night at the 2023 RMAC Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet on July 13.
It was a night filled with awards and recognition for Mines Athletics. Former distance star Heather Beresford was Mines' newest inductee to the RMAC Hall of Fame, and current distance standouts
Zoe Baker and
Duncan Fuehne were recognized as the conference's Scholar-Athletes of the Year. In addition, Mines' conference coaches of the year were recognized, and the baseball, football, and men's swimming received their Brechler Awards for holding the league's top team GPAs in 2022-23. The Mines athletic communications staff also won its third consecutive J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall Award as the RMAC's top department.
Director of Athletics David Hansburg accepted
Mines Athletics' seventh straight and eighth overall RMAC All-Sports Cup, which recognizes the top overall athletic department in the RMAC. The Orediggers won five conference titles in 2022-23 and scored 933 points out of a possible 1,000 to keep the Cup in Golden.
Beresford, already a Mines Hall of Fame member,
was inducted as part of the RMAC's class of 2023 as a trailblazer for Mines' women's cross country and track & field programs. The cross country team's first all-American, Beresford earned nine combined podium finishes in her career including three all-America awards in the mile and national silver medals in the mile and DMR. She helped push the program to national prominance, helping Mines cross country to its first-ever nationals appearance in 2002 and a fifth-place finish just three years later; the Orediggers' 10th-place indoor track national finish in 2006 would be the program's best until 2023.
Cross country and track & field all-Americans Baker and Fuehne
took home the RMAC's top academic honors as the Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Baker, a repeat winner, is a graduate student in computer science and a 13-time all-American in her decorated career. Fuehne, a graduate student in physics, was an all-American in all three seasons in 2022-23 including a national individual bronze in cross country.
Mines had six RMAC Coaches of the Year in 2022-23, including men's soccer's
Greg Mulholland, women's soccer's
Kevin Fickes, men's cross country's
Chris Siemers, football's Brandon Moore, women's swimming's
