GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines football team opened its preseason camp on Monday, marking the unofficial start of the 2023-24 school year for Mines Athletics.
The football team is the first to report back to campus, with Mines' soccer, volleyball, and cross country teams returning this weekend or early next week. Fans can follow their favorite teams' progress through camp via Instagram at

The Orediggers (13-3, 9-0 RMAC in 2022) return a veteran-filled squad from the team that made its historic run to the NCAA Division II championship game a year ago. Under first-year head coach
Pete Sterbick, Mines returns 18 starters, including national player of the year
John Matocha at quarterback, the nation's leading returning receiver in
Max McLeod, all but one member of the offensive line two-deep, and eight all-RMAC starters from a defense that led all of college football in sacks last year. The Orediggers have 17 sixth-year seniors on the roster.
Mines will run preseason camp through Sunday, Aug. 20 before classes begin the next day. The season kicks off at home at home Aug. 31 against Grand Valley State at 6 p.m.
