CHADRON, Neb. - Every weight class was a battle and Colorado School of Mines was in it to the end, but fell 22-12 at #12 Chadron State Friday night.
The Orediggers (4-2, 2-2 RMAC) picked up four victories courtesy of
Cody Thompson,
Jaron Mahler,
Tristin David, and
Ryan Cody, and were within three points heading into the final bout, but the Eagles (5-1, 3-0 RMAC) picked up a pair of bonus point wins and a pin to finish in their victory.
Chadron State went up 10-0 as they won at 125, 133, and 141 to start, but Mines rallied and won the next three to tie it 10-10. The run started with #12
Cody Thompson's 9-4 win over Torry Early at 149, and Mahler earned a 10-2 major decision against Clayton Robinson at 157 before David won a hard-fought 7-5 decision over Jaziah Whaley at 165 with a late takedown.Â
That leveled things with four bouts to go, but CSC came away with a win at 174 in a clash of nationally-ranked grapplers as #10 Logan Berger got a takedown at the buzzer to edge #11
Wyatt Reisz 5-4. Keegan Gehlhausen followed that with an 11-10 win over
Mason Diel, but
Ryan Cody beat Eli Hinojosa at 197 to make it a 16-13 deficit heading to heavyweight; #5 Mason Watt shut the door with a pin, however, to hand the Eagles the win.
Mines will stay on the road for a dual at Colorado Mesa next Saturday before returning home to host Adams State on Feb. 3.
