GOLDEN, Colo.
- Colorado School of Mines' middle distance runners starred on Saturday at the Winter Classic as the Orediggers hit four new national qualifying times.

Alberto Campa and Brock Drengenberg virtually locked up their spots in the mile and Aryelle Wright ran a strong 800m all in NCAA provisional times, and Everett Delate added another with his 60m hurdles win. Orediggers won five events overall.

The track program was highlighted by a loaded men's mile field that produced six NCAA provisional times led by Campa and Drengenberg. Paced by former national champion and Mines Hall of Famer Mark Husted, Campa won the event in 4:11.45 and Drengenberg was third in 4:12.45, times that should convert right around 4:00 and lock both into nationals spots.

Tim Thompson racked up a second straight 800m win as he ran 1:56.26. Making his season debut,  Delate ran an NCAA-provisional 7.95 60m hurdles to win the event in a time only three hundreths off his personal best. Coulton Chan was fourth in 8.35 (8.29 prelim) and Rhett Cullers fifth at 8.45. Garrett Halbrooks finished 11th in the 60m dash at 7.09.

In the field, Grant Redmond matched his season high with a 2.07m bar for the second straight week in the high jump, finishing second as Colorado Mesa's Eddie Kurjak set the Steinhauer Fieldhouse record with a 2.20m clearance.

Nicholas Nijkamp finished sixth in the triple jump at 12.73m, and in the circle, Davin Kiesby was 11th (15.38m) and Brody Welch 14th (14.63m) in the weight throw.

Wright led a strong women's 800m field that produced three NCAA provisional times with her 2:14.72 event win, with Avary Catchings running a PR of 2:17.98. Wright's time should put her comfortably in the national top 10 as she seeks a return to the NCAA Championships.

Aani Hardesty won the 400m in a blazing 58.83, the Orediggers' fastest 400 of the year and the new #8 all-time performance in Mines history. Andrea Walser finished eighth in 1:05.25, and was also fifth in the 60m hurdles in 9.34, one of three Oredigger finalists along with Lisa Sutherland (9.47) and Ryan Kennett (9.91). Randi Higashi finished 20th in the 60m dash in 8.35 seconds.

Lexye Wood cleared 1.61m for sixth in the high jump with Sutherland ninth at 1.56m and Claire Kintzley 10th over 1.51m. Jennifer Jarnagin placed sixth in the weight throw hitting 15.43m, and Kitt Rupar was eighth at 15.15m with Abbi Gillespie 15th at 13.83m.
