SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and GUNNISON, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines split up to start the new year, finding success both in a tri-meet in California and at the Western Colorado Open in Gunnison on Friday.
The Orediggers (4-0, 2-0 RMAC) won a pair of duals at San Francisco State, routing Fort Hays State 33-8 in a non-conference tilt before beating the host Gators 26-15 to stay perfect in the RMAC. Meanwhile in Gunnison,
Garrett Bakarich won the 184-pound bracket to lead three placewinners in the Western Colorado Open.

Mines won the first eight bouts as it routed Fort Hays State, 33-8, behind four bonus-point wins.

Grayston DiBlasi earned a fall and
Trebor Moreno, #12
Cody Thompson, and
Mason Diel each had technical falls to lead the Orediggers.
Mines went ahead from the start when
Christian Lopez used a superb defensive third period to beat D'Andre Brown 5-4 at 125, and Moreno, DiBlasi, and Thompson would then combine for 16 points over the next three weight classes with Moreno winning 18-1, DiBlasi working a second-period pin, and Thompson shutting out his competition 16-0.
Jaron Mahlor won 4-2 over Cason Lindsey at 157, and
Tristin David and #11
Wyatt Reisz earned twin 8-2 victories at 165 and 174, respectively, to make it 33-0.
Nico Gagliardi had a tough assignment in his official Mines debut against #6 Tereus Henry in a technical fall loss at 197, and Anthony Caldwell outlasted
Laith Ibrahim in overtime 4-1 at 285 pounds.

Mines moved to 2-0 in RMAC competition as it held off San Francisco State, 26-15, with bonus points again being a decisive factor.
The Orediggers only held a 6-4 bout victory edge, but dominated the lower weights with the trio of Moreno, DiBlasi, and Thompson again winning with extra points to take a big early lead.
Christian Lopez started Mines off with another close victory, this time a high-scoring 14-11 decision over Hayden Ancheta, and Moreno pinned his opponent in 1:26 before DiBlasi cruised 19-1 and Thompson added a second-period pin to make it 20-0.
SFSU got points back with a Basil Othman tech fall over
Jaron Mahler at 157 and Kyle Botelho's 8-1 win over
Jakob Smith at 165, but the Orediggers sealed the dual thanks to decision wins by
Wyatt Reisz, 4-2, and
Mason Diel, 11-6, at 174 and 184, respectively. That put it out of reach of the Gators despite them winning the final two weight classes.

Garrett Bakarich was virtually perfect, producing three pins in three matches as he won the 184-pound bracket at the Western Colorado Open.
Bakarich was one of attached three placewinners for the Orediggers as
Ryan Cody was the runner-up at 197 pounds and
Jeffery Morosini finished sixth in the same bracket.Â
Bakarich worked less than two periods' worth of wrestling in the tournament, earning three first-period pins with the fastest coming in the final over Western Colorado's Pratt Williams in a 30-second victory. Meanwhile, Cody was 2-1 as he opened with a fall and a decision to make the final before suffering a late pin against Air Force's Brian Burburija. Morosini was 2-3, advancing to the fifth-place match wrestling back through the consolation bracket with a tech fall over WCU's Dante Pallone and a high-scoring major over Colorado Mesa's Brady Samuelson, 22-13.
Charlie Holub was 2-2 with a pair of wins by fall at 285, while
Carson Dulitz (149),
Niko Mayo (157),
Grant Crownhart (165), and
Avery Krippner (174) were 1-2 on the day.
Elliot Kim (133),
Daniel Caddy (157), and
Deandre Rucker (197) fell out early in 0-2 afternoons.

- DiBlasi's fall against Fort Hays State was the 24th of his career, which now ties him for fifth all-time at Mines with Peter Jenson.Â
- Mines defeated both Fort Hays State and San Francisco State for the sixth consecutive meetings.

Tristin David reached 30 career wins, taking his 8-2 decision against Fort Hays State and majoring SFSUU's Conrado Trevino-Oceguera 12-2 in an exhibition bout.
Levi Farris won his 20th with an exhibition over FHSU's Ryan Patterson, 10-7.
- Bakarich is Mines' second tournament winner this season joining
Cody Thompson, who won the 149-pound Elite weight class at Nebraska-Kearney in November. It was Bakarich's first career tournament win.Â
