Mines Finishes Fall A Strong 5th At Otter Invite

SEASIDE, Calif.
- Colorado School of Mines ended its fall season on a strong note, finishing fifth in a 19-team field at the Otter Invitational at Bayonet GC.

Mines stayed put in its fifth-place slot as they finished off the last two holes of the second round and the third round on Tuesday. The Orediggers carded identical rounds of 294 to land at +21, landing ahead of both nationally-ranked teams in the field beating #22 CSU Pueblo by three strokes and #20 West Texas A&M by a dozen. Cal State East Bay held off the host Cal State Monterey Bay by three strokes for the team title at +4.

Lukas Taggart shot an even-par 72 to top the leaderboard for Mines in a tie for 14th, staying at +1 for the tournament. Taggart finished on a birdie among three in his round. Lucas Schulte wrapped up a career-best finish of T21 with a round of 76, settling at +5 for the week. Max Lange was Mines' biggest mover of the day, jumping up 33 spots as he finished out an even-par second round before shooting 73 to get to T44 (+11). Lange's round was keyed by three birdies in a four-hole stretch after the turn. Colt Tenpenny bounced back from a tough Monday to be a counting score on Tuesday with a 73, moving to a tie for 76th at +18 overall, while Carter Lolli finished T70 (+16) with the final-round non-counting score of 79.

Eric Casademont Vinyoles, as an individual, shot his best round of the week with a 75 to finish T81 at +20.

Santa Clara's Jack Hayden won medalist honors as an individual at -5, with CSU Pueblo's Marius Dosiere, West Texas A&M's Victor Estas, and Cal State East Bay's Ananjan Kaushik tied for second at -4.

The Orediggers return to competition March 2 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
