Day Three Results

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Seven Orediggers made a total of eight appearances in "A" finals on Friday at the TYR/CMU Invitational which helped the Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams rack up big points in the team standings.

Luca Burns topped the list of scoring performers by racing in two different "A" finals as an individual. He finished fifth in the 100-fly with a time of 49.31. Burns also finished third in the 100-back at a 48.62 clip. Both his prelim and final swims in the 100-back went under the NCAA "B" cut as well. The Texan finished his night with a leg on Mines' top 400-medley relay team which grabbed sixth-place points.

While Burns may have appeared in multiple fast finals, he was bested by teammate Jakson Winn in the 100-back. Winn raced to silver thanks to a NCAA "B" cut of 48.26. Elsewhere, Jordan Tierney placed sixth in the 100-breast after a pair of NCAA-qualifying swims topping out at 1:03.43. Isabella Bono and Lucas Hoke both took eighth in the 400-IM. Bono went 4:35.07 – a NCAA "B" time – in the women's final. Hoke posted a 4:03.88 in the men's final for his second NCAA "B" cut of the day. Michael Kietzman rounded out the Orediggers' top-eight finishers by finishing eighth in the 200-free thanks to a NCAA "B" time in prelims.

Plenty of other Orediggers added points to the team totals as well. On the women's side, Jennifer Pierson scored in the 100-fly, Julie Gill and Zooecia Phoebus did the same in the 400-IM. Ava LaBrose found points for Mines' women in the 200-free, and so did Cameryn Schmidt and Ava Burger in the 100-breast. Individual scoring for the Oredigger women was capped by Kerrigan Hemp and Emi Jedryka in the 100-back. Two different quartets added to Mines' total in the 400-medley relay with Hemp, Tierney, Sophia Buhr, and Pierson on one squad. Burger, Schmidt, Savannah Karas, and Kylie VanderMeer made up the other relay team.

Additional scorers for Mines' men were aplenty as well. Kietzman struck in the 100-fly. Ronan Lauinger and Gavin Moore did it in the 400-IM. Jaron O'Grady, Sawyer Jones, and Joseph Lev-Tov contributed to the cause in the 200-free. Joe Hutchinson, Gavin Moore, Gavin Gilmore, and Kevin Burns came up big in the 100-breast as well. The Oredigger men also had two relays as well. Winn, Hutchinson, Luca Burns, and Jones were one foursome. Vladislav Kazakin, Gilmore, O'Grady, and Cook were the other quartet.

Also notable, but not already mentioned on the day were three additional NCAA qualifying times. Lauinger went below the line in the "B" finals of the 400-IM and actually posted the third fastest time of the day at 3:57.96. In the 200-free, Olivia Kisow hit a NCAA "B" time in finals and Pierson did the same swimming an exhibition in morning prelims.

Mines closes out the 2024 TYR/CMU Invitational on Saturday with morning prelims at 10 a.m. and evening finals at 4 p.m. That's an hour earlier than the last two days. Free live video will be available on the RMAC Network along with live results linked at www.minesathletics.com.
