GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams closed out their trip to the TYR/CMU Invitational on Saturday evening at Colorado Mesa.
Â
The highlight of the final day was a program record in the women's 400-freestyle relay. The Mines quartet of
Jennifer Pierson,
Jordan Tierney,
Maggie Wells, and
Kylie VanderMeer posted a time of 3:28.24 which broke the program's unadjusted and altitude-adjusted best mark. Additionally, Tierney grabbed silver in the 200-breast, and the Orediggers produced 10 NCAA "B" times.
Â
Tierney's NCAA time in the 200-breast was 2:17.59.
Isabella Bono and
Julie Gill had NCAA times in the 1650-free, going 17:58.52 and 17:31.79, respectively. The men's mile saw
Lucas Hoke,
Joseph Lev-Tov, and
Jake Sherman all go under the "B" cut with times of 16:10.14, 16:13.66, and 16:16.36. Then, in the 100-free, Pierson went off for a 51.76,
Michael Kietzman touched in 44.93, and
Jakson Winn put up a 45.21 – all NCAA "B" times.
Â
At the tail end of the night,
Jaron O'Grady had a NCAA time of 1:50.11 while taking fourth in the 200-fly. That prefaced the women's record in the 400-freestyle relay. Kietzman,
Sawyer Jones,
Gavin Moore, and Winn sandwiched the women's record with a 3:01.09 in the men's relay. All of that gave Mines' women 405 points in a fourth-place finish as a team while the Oredigger men finished third thanks to 573 points.
Â
Mines has a month off from competition before returning to action on Jan. 3 at University of Denver.
