CSC Academic All-America® Teams
AUSTIN, Texas – Ava Harman and
Reese McDermott became the 201st and 202nd Orediggers to earn Academic All-America® honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Wednesday as the duo became the 12th and 13th players in program history to earn the honor and were both named First Team Academic All-America®.
Mines was one of four Division II institutions to have multiple Academic All-America® selections this year, joining Catawba (3), Colorado Mesa (2) and West Florida (2).
Harman earns the first Academic All-America honors of her career following a standout fifth and final season at Mines. Previously a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, she graduated in May with a 3.714 GPA in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and started work on a Master's degree in Data Science this fall. The 2024 RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, Harman was one of four players to start all 23 matches this season for a career-high 1,921 minutes and scored a career-high four times with two assists for 10 points. Three of her goals were game winners against Chico State, Lubbock Christian and Western Washington as she was an anchor of one of the best defenses in the country this season that allowed just 0.57 goals and 7.8 shots per game.
McDermott closes out her time in Golden by collecting one of the few honors she had not yet claimed in her distinguished career as she earns the first Academic All-America® honors of her career. The back-to-back RMAC Academic Player of the Year who also earned three previous CSC Academic All-District selections, she carries a 3.948 GPA in Quantitative Biosciences & Engineering and will graduate in December. With the 2024 season in the books, McDermott ended her fall with 19 goals and seven assists for 45 points with seven game-winners. For her career, the Houston native will go down as one of the all-time greats in program history, ranking in the top five in every offensive category and penning her name into several single-season categories and holding numerous time-based scoring records.
