GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines head men's basketball coach Pryor Orser has announced the signing of four student-athletes who will be joining the Orediggers for the 2025-26 season. The incoming class currently consists of newcomers from four states from the Midwest to the West Coast and points in between with positional versatility in the post and the perimeter.

Shelton Henton // 6'5" // 185 // Guard // Bellevue, Wash. // PHH Prep
Henton comes to Golden from the Pacific Northwest and PHH Prep School where he has averaged 28 points, 10 rebounds and two steals per game. A decorated player, he holds numerous school records including single-game scoring, single-season scoring and single-game free throws. Henton was an All-Conference Honorable Mention as a freshman and earned First Team honors as a Sophomore while being named KingCo All-League Most Valuable Player as a junior. He's a four-year letter winner and plays for FOH Seattle on the AAU circuit. Off the court, Henton carries a 4.0 GPA and plans to major in Computer Science at Mines.

Coach Orser on Henton: "Shelton is a proven scorer and rebounder at the high school level and at the prep school level.  His prep school team is currently undefeated and has played some of the better teams in the country so far. He is also getting great coaching and development this year, which bodes well for him next year at Mines. He is an outstanding student who immerses himself in learning, but also absolutely loves basketball. He is the trademark "hooper" in our world. I consider Shelton an outstanding shooter with great range, but also has a nose for ball with really good rebounding instincts. He will fill an absolute need for our team next year as we lose some really good shooters. We love our big guards who can shoot and rebound, and he is just that and we look forward to providing Shelton an outstanding learning environment here at Mines as well as an opportunity to play in an winning culture"

Kellon Johnson // 6'5" // Guard/Forward // Medina, Ohio // Medina HS
The second native of the Buckeye State headed to Golden in the last two signing classes, Johnson comes to Mines following a career at Medina High School where he was an All-Conference selection and averaged 10 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. Off the court he was a perennial Honor Roll student and plans to major in Environmental Engineering at Mines.

Coach Orser on Johnson: "Kellon is a player who reached out to us as a junior as he was looking for great engineering, and a very good basketball program. We are so happy it worked out that Kellon will be an Oredigger. He fits what we like, a big guard, also can shoot, rebound, and can play multiple positions. He is a crafty finisher as well. We think he will really flourish in our system as he can guard the ball in full court pressure. His length will be a problem for ball handlers. He is also a very good student, but also is an incredible young man. He plays in a really well coached high school program and also plays in a very good basketball league in Cleveland. He has played with and against some very good talent in his high school career which will get him ready for the college level. We look forward to working with a player like Kellon who's upside could provide our team with an athlete that is different from what we are accustomed to".

Trent Minter // 6'7" // 200 // Forward // Seal Beach, Calif. // Los Alamitos HS
The latest West Coast product to make his way to the mountains, Minter comes to Mines from Los Alamitos High School where he has averaged 15.2 points and 10 rebounds per game in his career. A stretch player who can play inside-out on the court, he has been named Sunset League Most Valuable Player and earned First Team All-County and First Team Division 1 All-CIF honors in his career. Off the court, he has consistently been an Honor Roll student and intends to study Business Engineering and Management Science at Mines.

Coach Orser on Minter: "Trent is a high caliber player who, in one recruiting service, is the number one ranked high academic prospect in California. Trent and his family value our high-level education here at Mines, outstanding student athlete experience, and winning basketball versus the crazy train of the transfer portal, seven or more new teammates every year, and a de-emphasis on education. He is a multi-talented player who at 6'7" can play multiple positions. He can shoot, drive, pass, and guard multiple positions as well. He plays in a similar system to ours in high school. We think Trent is one of the more talented players we have signed here at Mines and his game compliments the other guys we signed. We lose some highly regarded seniors this year, but we think Trent is a "plug and play guy" right away. We look forward to coaching Trent here at Mines."

Gil Schayes // 6'5" // 185 // Forward // Denver, Colo. // Kent Denver School
The latest in a long-line of basketball players in his family, Schayes will be staying close to home as he continues his career at Mines from Kent Denver School in Englewood. A two-sport athlete who has earned four letters on the hardwood and a pair on the tennis court, Schayes has been named to the Colorado Preps All-Tournament Team and helped lead Denver Kent to a State Runner-Up finish in 2024. A three-year team captain, he also played for Pro Skills Basketball on the club circuit where he averages 18 points, 13 rebounds and four assists per game. Off the court, he has taken numerous AP classes at one of the top private schools in the state and intends to study Mechanical Engineering at Mines.

Coach Orser on Schayes: "Gil comes from an unbelievable basketball family with his dad a longtime, successful coach here at Kent Denver.  His uncle Danny Schayes played 18 years in the NBA and with our home town Nuggets. His great uncle was the former legendary NBA player and Aeronautical Engineering major, Dolph Schayes. The Schayes family also prioritizes high academics, and they have engineering backgrounds as well. Gil was dead set on majoring in engineering at a high-level school and really wanted the outstanding Mines education. He is also an outstanding young man and the type of guy we love having in our program. He also plays in a similar system to ours at Kent. It was very important for me personally to see Gil in an Oredigger uniform. It will be a proud moment for his entire family for Gil to don the silver and blue while achieving a first-rate education. We look forward to coaching Gil the next four-five years."
