Gorilla Classic Results

BOSTON, Mass. and PITTSBURG, Kan. -
More program records went down and Mines tallied numerous national-level performances as they closed their weekend at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invite and Pitt State's Gorilla Classic.

In Boston, Loic Scomparin ran the NCAA all-time #2 3,000m time and the women's distance medley relay snapped the Mines record, while in Kansas, Everett Delate reset his program 60m hurdles mark for a second straight week.

Scomparin reset his own program 3K record with the NCAA Division II all-time #2 performance, running 7:46.11 for fifth in an elite field of runners; both he and Adams State's Miguel Coca (7:44.90) ran below the previous national record of 7:50. Scomparin's previous PR and Mines record was 7:51.84 set at last year's same meet.

A large group of Orediggers in the 5K was led by Duncan Fuehne, who ran a personal-best 13:45.39 to slot in at #5 on the national performance list and punch his ticket to nationals. Dawson Gunn ran 14:07.09, the #20 NCAA D-II time, and Paul Knight 14:10.42, the #21 time, while John O'Malley came in at 14:12.72 and Daniel Appleford 14:15.51. Max Bonenberger finished in 14:26.04, and Andrew Kaye 14:27.08.

The combo of Imani Fernandez-Gorbea, Grace Galvin, Aryelle Wright, and Riley McGrath crossed the line in 11:26:43, eighth overall, snapping the program record of 11:30.28 set at last year's NCAA Championships. It improved upon their previous 11:32 altitude-converted national qualifying mark, standing at #5 nationally.

In the men's mile, Alberto Campa ran a personal-best 4:05.62, the new Mines all-time #5 performance, and Brock Drengenberg crossed in 4:06.62, also a PR that makes him Mines' #8 all-time performer.

At Pitt State, Delate reset his 60m hurdles program record for a second straight weekend, and this time did it in what was temporarily a national-leading time of 7.81 seconds with his prelim run; he ran 7.86 in finals for fifth as two other D-II competitors went 7.80 or below, ultimately producing the top three season times in the nation at the meet.

Allison Comer led the women's 400m with a personal best for the second straight weekend, running 57.66 for 13th place. Aani Hardesty came in 23rd with a time of 58.85 seconds, and Randi Higashi was two spots behind in 58.98. Tim Thompson finished sixth in the men's 800m at 1:52.38, while Avary Catchings finished 10th in a competitive women's 800m field with a huge personal best of 2:14.56, which puts her as the #6 all-time performer at Mines.

Higashi, Hardesty, Catchings, and Comer combined for a 3:51.68 4x400, an NCAA provisional time that stands as the second-fastest in program history.

In the field, Grant Redmond cleared a season-best 2.10m for third in the high jump, inching him closer to nationals qualification. Hannah Miller was second in the women's pole vault getting over 4.07m, with Dale Thompson and Avery Herbold each clearing 3.77m for fifth and sixth, respectively, as Ava Kowalski tied for ninth at 3.67m. In the men's pole vault, Hunter Potrykus placed fifth clearing 4.87m, Kai Miller was seventh at 4.77m, and Aidan Bennett ninth at 4.67m.
