DENVER, Colo. – Multiple low times across two days were the highlight for the Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams at University of Denver's First Chance Invitational inside El Pomar Natatorium.
Action started Friday afternoon and ran into the evening. With 10 Orediggers in action,
Annie Osmun,
Jordan Tierney and
Joseph Lev-Tov grabbed the spotlight. Osmun's 200-free came first as she touched the wall in 1:52.98. That time, without altitude conversion, was under the NCAA "B" cut line. Altitude conversion at a mile high put the senior's season-best time at 1:51.78 which should rank top-50 in the nation heading into the RMAC Championships.
Tierney broke out next with a 1:02.48 in the 100-breast. The performance was a NCAA "B" time and the #3-ranked time in NCAA Division II this season with altitude conversion. It was also just .01 seconds off her own program record and was good enough for gold ahead of four other NCAA Division I swimmers. Lev-Tov wrapped Friday's highlights by swimming 16:26.20 in the 1650-free, just seconds off a NCAA "B" time.
Gavin Moore,
Scott Reeder,
Jorie Selig,
Jack Engler,
Gavin Gilmore,
Jaron O'Grady, and
Julie Gill also raced for Mines on Friday.
Saturday saw
Seth Krause steal the show. He stopped the clock in the 100-fly at 48.47. Like Osmun's 200-free, the time already fell under the NCAA "B" cut line, and with altitude conversion falls just outside the nation's top-25. However, along the way, Krause also took down his own program record in the 50-fly thanks to a 21.94 split. It topped his own program-best time of 48.22 from just two weeks ago against Adams State. So far this season, no student-athlete in NCAA Division II has gone sub-22.0 in the 50-fly.
Jake Sherman,
Oliver Theby,
Julie Gill,
Max Waring, and
Jordan Tierney rounded out the Orediggers' Saturday contingency in South Denver.
The next action for Mines' men and women is the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships. Racing starts Tuesday evening in Grand Junction, Colo., at 6 p.m. It runs through Saturday, Feb. 17. A full preview will be posted early next week at
