15th Annual Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open - Sunday - 10 a.m. [Live Results]

SENIOR NIGHT, RMCO ON TAP AT HOME
The dual season comes to an end Thursday night as Colorado School of Mines hosts Simon Fraser at Volk Gym, with the Orediggers (7-2, 5-2 RMAC) honoring seniors Daniel Caddy and Levi Farris before the 6 p.m. meet. Volk Gym will also host a neutral-site dual preceding Mines-Simon Fraser, as Chadron State takes on SFU at 4:30 p.m. with one ticket getting fans admission to both duals. Both duals will stream live on the RMAC Network with live results on Trackwrestling.com.

Then on Sunday, Mines will host the 15th Annual Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open at Steinhauer Fieldhouse, with wrestling starting at 10 a.m. The multi-mat tournament draws competitors from around the RMAC and region. Live results and brackets will be available on Trackwrestling.com; limited fan seating is provided in Steinhauer Fieldhouse, and spectators are welcome to bring their own camp chairs.

SENIOR NIGHT SET FOR THURSDAY
Caddy, a fourth-year senior from Craig, Colo. majoring in mechanical engineering, has wrestled in 38 bouts as an Oredigger with 17 wins and four falls, and has been part of the dual lineup at 157 pounds the last two seasons. Farris, a fifth-year senior from Palmer, Alaska, has 21 wins and two pins in 35 career bouts and was a 2023 Honorable Mention All-RMAC selection; he has his bachelor's from Mines in engineering physics.

LAST TIME OUT
Mines dug out of a hole and won the final four weight classes to overcome CSU Pueblo, 24-17, in an RMAC dual last Thursday at Volk Gym. The Orediggers trailed 17-9 with four bouts to go, but showed heart as they chipped at the deficit on wins by Wyatt Reisz and Mason Diel, then picked up a key major decision by Ryan Cody before Laith Ibrahim sealed things up at heavyweight. Mines collected bonus-point wins thanks to Trebor Moreno (MD), Cody Thompson (TF), Reisz (TF), and Cody (MD).

THE SERIES
Mines and RMAC affiliate member Simon Fraser (3-7, 0-6 RMAC) meet for the fifth time as the Orediggers are an unbeaten 4-0 versus the Red Leafs. Last year, the two met in Gunnison as part of the Tracy Borah Duals with Mines winning 39-7.

IN THE POLLS
Mines appeared in fifth place in the RMAC preseason coaches' poll, and are poised to finish no worse than a tie for second in the RMAC if they can defeat Simon Fraser. Chadron State, win or lose against SFU, has already clinched the RMAC championship. In the most recent NWCA rankings, Mines is receiving votes in the team tournament top-25 with Grayston DiBlasi ranked #8 at 141 pounds. Last week's OpenMat rankings have DiBlasi #13 and Wyatt Reisz #14 at 174; SFU's 197-pounder Sam Pereira is #17 and heavyweight Taniela Feliciano-Takafua is #8.

LEADING THE WAY
With the season entering its home stretch, 149-pounder Cody Thompson has emerged as the team's wins leader with an outstanding 17-2 record, and is Mines' only unbeaten dual wrestler at 9-0. Wyatt Reisz has 16 wins and Grayston DiBlasi is at 15. Thompson has a team-best 44 dual points; Cade Whish leads the team in falls with seven, Reisz in tech falls at six, and Jaron Mahler in major decisions with five.

AT THE HELM
Head Coach Austin DeVoe is in his 11th season in charge of the Mines Wrestling program, having rebuilt the Orediggers into a national contender with a pair of RMAC titles, seven all-Americans, and seven Academic All-Americans in his tenure. With 75 dual wins under his belt, Mines has had six consecutive winning dual seasons including the only three double-digit win seasons in program history, and Mines tied the program record for wins last year at 11-2. On the national stage, Mines has had team success as well including an 11th-place finish in 2022 which was the program's best finish since the 1990s.

NEXT UP
After this week, the Orediggers look to the postseason with the NCAA Super Region VI Championship coming up in Pueblo on March 2.
