Orediggers Drop Home Game to Adams State

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball team hosted Adams State at Lockridge Arena on Friday night. The Orediggers fell to the Grizzlies by a score of 82-63.
 
Ashley Steffeck scored 14 points, pulled down six rebounds, notched four assists, and tallied three steals. Loralee Stock added 12 points with seven rebounds, two blocks, two assists, and one steal. Josephine Howery made it a trio of Orediggers scoring in double digits. She had 11 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Also notable were Shelby Nichols' eight points and seven rebounds as well as Suni Davis' nine points in 15 minutes of game action. Kiiyani Anitielu led all players with 22 points for ASU.
 
Mines (20-7, 15-6 RMAC) was held under 37-percent shooting from the floor including a 22-percent clip from three-point range. Adams State (22-7, 17-4 RMAC) converted over 50 percent of its shots and went 10-for-20 from behind the arc. The Orediggers did work a 36-34 rebounding advantage, but the Grizzlies forced 18 turnovers by Mines and turned those into 23 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Adams State scored the first basket of the night on the way to an 11-2 start. Stock helped put together a modest 6-0 run for Mines, but after one quarter, the Grizzlies owned a 23-10 lead. They held their hosts to seven points in the second quarter and carried a 42-17 cushion into halftime. After the break, the Orediggers outscored ASU over the last 20 minutes thanks to a combined 17, second-half points off the hands of Steffeck and Davis. However, it was not enough to overcome the Grizzlies' hot shooting and stifling defense.
 
NOTABLES
- The all-time series between Mines and Adams State now sits at 37-29 in favor of the Grizzlies.
- Davis' nine points put her over 100 for her collegiate career.
- Steffeck surpassed 500 made field goals as an Oredigger. She also tied Cassidy Budge for #6 on the program's single-season list for made three-pointers.
- Stock matched her career high with seven rebounds.
- Nichols, Stock, and Steffeck celebrated their Senior Night with recognition during halftime of the men's game.
- Mines Head Coach Brittany Simpson is now 218-121 in her 12th season at the helm for the Orediggers.
