DALLAS, Texas – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) released its national winners for weekly awards on Thursday, and Oredigger outfielder
Mason Andrews was selected as the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week.
It marks the first national award of Andrews' career. He was named RMAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, and won NCBWA South Central Region Hitter of the Week on Tuesday. The McKinney, Texas, native is the first Oredigger since 2022 to win NCBWA National Hitter of the Week. That honoree was current teammate
Luke Folsom. Mikey Gangwish, the program's home run king, also claimed the honor on behalf of Mines in 2018.
Andrews earned the accolade thanks to an outstanding performance at the plate across four games against Colorado Christian last weekend. He hit .750, slugged 2.250 and posted an on-base percentage of .833. Andrews helped with 22 of Mines' 43 runs scored on CCU by coming across the plate 10 times and driving in 12 more with three doubles and five home runs. Overall, the redshirt junior was only putout three times while adding four walks and getting hit twice. The cherry on top of Andrews' weekend was a 1.000 fielding percentage with six putouts in right field.
The Orediggers are attempting to make it to Grand Junction, Colo., for a RMAC series this weekend against Colorado Mesa. Severe winter weather has already pushed the four-game set to start Saturday. Road conditions on Friday will determine any additional changes to the schedule.
