DENVER, Colo. – Ahead of starting their 13th trip to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship, the Colorado School of Mines men's basketball saw their latest postseason accolade announced Friday as redshirt senior guard Majok Deng was named Second Team All-South Central Region by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA).

Deng becomes the third Oredigger in the last two seasons to earn Second Team laurels, joining Brendan Sullivan and Adam Thistlewood last season. Voting for the award was conducted by NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Communicators (D2CSC). Larry Wise of West Texas A&M was named Regional Player of the Year while four other names from the RMAC were recognized, with Colorado Mesa's Trevor Baskin and Black Hills State's Matthew Ragsdale were named First Team selections while CMU's Mac Riniker and Fort Lewis' Obi Agbim joined Deng on the Second Team.

Deng's debut season at Mines was about as good as anyone could have dreamed of and has already resulted in First Team All-RMAC honors and a place on the RMAC All-Tournament Team. He twice earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the league and also landed a spot on the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic All-Tournament Team to begin the season.

The graduate transfer from Pepperdine started all 32 games this season and led the team in scoring at a rate of 17.1 PPG while shooting .436 from the floor, .437 from three and .834 at the free throw line. Deng also averages 3.4 rebounds per game with 26 assists, 14 steals and three blocks. He scored in double figures in 26 games this season, scoring 20 or more nine times and becoming the first player in the last nine seasons with multiple 30-point showings and first player in 20 years to score 40 or more points in game, doing so against Chadron State on February 24.

Mines takes on Dallas Baptist in their 2024 NCAA Tournament opener Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. CT in Canyon, Texas at the First United Bank Center in the last quarterfinal game of day one of the South Central Regional.
