CORAL GABLES, Fla. -
Aryelle Wright and
Allison Comer set new Mines records and
Hannah Miller matched another to lead Colorado School of Mines at the Hurricane Collegiate Invite at the University of Miami.
Competing against power D-I programs like Georgia, Miami, and Duke, the Orediggers got a chance to find some warm weather and, despite an early-morning weather delay, produced multiple big performances in south Florida.Â
Wright's 2:07.08 800m run ranks as the NCAA Division II #2 performance of the season so far as she outran her 2:07.83 time from last year's Bryan Clay Invitational and all but ensured her return to the national meet. Meanwhile, Comer snapped the program 400m hurdles record, running 1:01.94 to take nearly a full second off the previous mark of 1:02.89 set by Kennede Brown in 2019.
Aani Hardesty also ran a program top-10 time of 1:04.10, the new #5 performer in Mines history.
In the field, Miller equaled her outdoor personal best of 4.20m, going through her first four bars without a miss to place second in the pole vault. Miller attempted a would-be all-venues PR of 4.30m.
Dale Thompson had a career day as well making 3.95m for the first time in her career, an all-venues best that jumps her up to the #3 spot on the program all-time top-10 as she placed fifth overall.
Avery Herbold cleared 3.80m for sixth, and
Ava Kowalski was a spot back at 3.65m.
Hunter Potrykus won the men's pole vault getting over the 5.10m bar without a miss before bowing out at 5.20m.
Noah Kelly placed third with a 4.80m clearance,
Kai Miller was fourth at 4.65m, and Aidan Bennet fifth at 4.50m.
Everett Delate picked up another win on the track in the men's 110m hurdles, running 14.20m as he made his season debut.
Tim Thompson ran his strongest performance of the year to place second in the 800m, clocking 1:51.81. Among women's track competitors,
Aani Hardesty ran 15.48 for 16th in the 100m hurdles, officially entering the Mines top-10 at #9, with
Avery Wright two spots behind in 15.54.
Avery Wright was also 30th in the 200m in 25.97.
Grace Galvin placed eighth in the women's 400m with a 57.98 time.
Allison Comer was eighth in the 400m hurdles in 1:01.94 with Hardesty 11th in 1:04.10. The women's 4x400 of Hardesty, Galvin, Comer, and
Aryelle Wright combined for a fifth-place 3:46.88, the #3 performance all-time at Mines.
In the field,
Grant Redmond cleared 2.06m to place fifth in the men's high jump, while
Lexye Wood and
Avery Wright competed in the women's long jump, with Wood ninth at 5.49m and Wright 10th with a 5.14m best.
