HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams only had three batters apiece go to the plate in the opening frame. In the top of the second inning, Mines hinted at a strong start by plating a pair of two-out runs on two hits. Humphreys doubled and scored Nielsen.
Tyler Pina singled and brought in Humphreys. However, Regis exploded for eight runs on seven hits including a home run in the bottom of the second to tamper the visitors' hopes of a series win.
In spite of the early outburst, the Orediggers were not deterred from attempting a rally. Andrews proved it by hitting a two-out, three-run, 400-foot home run in the top of the fourth. That brought Mines within three runs of the Rangers at 8-5. A Nielsen, leadoff single and a Moeck double made it 8-6 after the fifth frame. In the end, it was a six-run seventh that doomed the visitors and put RU over the edge. The flurry included five singles and a triple along with one hit batter and one walk. Humphrey's eigth-inning, two-run triple provided a glimmer of Oredigger hope, but three more Regis runs in the same frame shut the door at 17-8.
