2023-24 CSC Academic All-America Women's Swimming Teams

AUSTIN, Texas – The Colorado School of Mines Women's Swimming team placed a trio of Orediggers on the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America women's swimming teams on Tuesday with Annie Osmun, Jorie Selig, and Jordan Tierney earning distinction as CSC Academic All-Americans.

Osmun and Selig were voted CSC Second-Team Academic All-Americans and Tierney earned status as a CSC Third-Team Academic All-American. It marks the largest Oredigger contingency of Academic All-Americans in the history of Mines women's swimming. Selig becomes the second swimmer in program history to earn multiple Academic All-American awards with Tuesday marking the second honor of her career. Tierney reached Academic All-American status in her first year of eligibility. Osmun also claimed the first Academic All-American accolade of her career. Colorado Mesa's Benedict Nagy was named the CSC Academic All-America Team member of the year. Members of the CSC Academic All-America teams were initially nominated for CSC Academic All-District. A CSC committee then selected the finalists to put on the ballot for CSC Academic All-America. Members of College Sports Communicators voted on the teams. The team member of the year was also selected by a CSC committee. Minimum criteria for all-America recognition required a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5, or better, along with outstanding credentials in competition and a minimum participation requirement.

For Osmun, the prestigious award caps a season that also featured her first individual all-America finish in the pool as well. The Littleton, Colo., native qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in the 50-free, 100-free, 100-fly, 200-IM, and as part of the 400-medley relay. She raced to CSCAA Second-Team All-American finishes in the 100-fly and in the relay. Osmun finished 12th in the nation in the 100-fly thanks to a time of 54.78. Her role on the 400-medley relay helped Mines take 13th in the nation on the merits of a 3:44.68 pace. The senior also took 20th in the nation in the 200-IM, 43rd nationally in the 50-free, and 29th in the 100-free. At the 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, Osmun raced to RMAC gold in the 100-fly for the third time in four years. She added additional team points thanks to All-RMAC finishes in the 200-IM, 200-medley relay, 400-medley relay, and 800-freestyle relay along with top-10 finishes in the 100-free and 50-free. Overall, Osmun broke four program records and one facility record during the 2023-24 season, all while maintaining a 3.53 grade-point average (GPA) as a civil engineering major.

Selig's second nod to the prestigious academic squad puts her in the same company as Meghan Slowey who is the only other women's swimmer to earn multiple CSC Academic All-American awards. Selig did it by qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships for the third time in four years. She went to the national meet as part of the 400-medley relay which finished 13th in the nation with a time of 3:44.68 and made the senior CSCAA Second-Team All-American for a second consecutive year in the same event. At the conference meet, Selig was First-Team All-RMAC as part of the 200-medley and 400-medley relays while bringing home Second-Team All-RMAC on the 200-freestyle relay. She added team points at the RMAC Championships thanks to finals appearances in the 100-fly, 100-free, and 50-free. The Downers Grove, Ill., native finished her collegiate career listed four times in the program record book and touts a 3.60 GPA as an electrical engineering student.

Tierney brought home CSC Third-Team Academic All-America honors in her first year of eligibility thanks to an elite season in the pool. She qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in the 100-breast, 200-breast, and as part of the 400-medley relay. The Middletown, Del., native raced to national bronze in the 100-breast at a 1:01.95 pace after breaking the program records in the 50-breast and 100-breast during prelims. That granted the true sophomore CSCAA First-Team All-America status. She was also CSCAA Second-Team All-America thanks to the 400-medley relay's 13th-place finish at the national meet. Tierney rounded out her trip to Ohio by finishing 20th in the nation in the 200-breast. It all added to a resume that included a sweep of RMAC gold in the 100-breast and 200-breast just a few weeks prior. Overall, Tierney's conference meet included First-Team All-RMAC in the 100-breast, 200-breast, and the 400-medley relay. She was Second-Team All-RMAC on the 200-freestyle relay. The graduate of Appoquinimink High School added team points at the RMAC races in the 200-IM and 50-free as well. During the 2023-24 campaign, Tierney etched her name in the program record book seven times including four top times in Mines history and three facility records. She is pursuing a degree in computational & applied mathematics and owns a 3.73 GPA.

Mines' women finished the 2023-24 season by taking 25th in the nation at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships with the most team points at the national meet in program history. They also brought home a runner-up finish at the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships. Under the direction of Head Coach Claire McDaniel, the Oredigger women posted three all-American finishes and claimed three RMAC gold medals.
