2023-24 CSC Academic All-America Men's Swimming Teams

AUSTIN, TexasCharles Burroughs, Seth Krause, and Jaron O'Grady provided the Colorado School of Mines Men's Swimming team a trio of representatives on the College Sports Communicators' (CSC) 2023-24 Academic All-America teams on Wednesday morning.

Mines' three selections mark the most CSC Academic All-Americans in a single season in the history of Oredigger men's swimming. Burroughs was voted to the first team while Krause and O'Grady earned second-team distinction. The announcement makes Burroughs and Krause two-time CSC Academic All-American's. O'Grady's nod was the first of his career. Burroughs and Krause become the second and third men's swimmers at Mines to earn multiple selections to the prestigious squads, joining Brennan Mays who was voted to the second team in 2016 and 2017. Florida Southern's Kyle Micallef was named the CSC Academic All-America Team member of the year. Members of the CSC Academic All-America teams were initially nominated for CSC Academic All-District. A CSC committee then selected the finalists to put on the ballot for CSC Academic All-America. Members of College Sports Communicators voted on the teams. The team member of the year was also selected by a CSC committee. Minimum criteria for all-America recognition required a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5, or better, along with outstanding credentials in competition and a minimum participation requirement.

Burroughs earned CSC First-Team Academic All-America for a second straight season after another all-American finish in the pool at the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. He won CSCAA Second-Team All-America status at the national meet by finishing 16th in the nation in the 200-fly with at time of 1:48.93. The Lone Tree, Colo., native also took 33rd in the nation in the 100-fly and 43rd in the 200-IM after competing at the NCAA races for a third consecutive year and the fourth time in five collegiate seasons. At the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships, Burroughs was First-Team All-RMAC with a pair of silver medals in the 100-fly and 200-fly. He claimed Second-Team All-RMAC distinction as part of the record-setting 400-medley relay and scored additional team points with finals appearances in the 200-breast and 200-IM as well. Burroughs closes his collegiate career listed four times in the program record book including three top times in Oredigger history and one facility record. He already earned his bachelor's degree from Mines in mechanical engineering while touting a 3.80 GPA. The graduate of the STEM School is also pursuing a master's degree in thermal fluid systems and owns a 3.66 GPA in that program.

Krause, a third-team selection in 2022-23, earned CSC Second-Team Academic All-American in 2023-24 following a record-setting season for the Orediggers. The senior sprinter took down the program's 50-fly record and helped the 400-medley break the facility record during the regular season. In the postseason, Krause was First-Team All-RMAC thanks to a pair of silver medals as part of the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays at the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships. He added two Second-Team All-RMAC swims in the 100-fly and as part of the 400-freestyle relay. The Minnseota native provided additional team scoring at the conference meet by finishing top-10 in the 50-free and the 100-back. He also owned the fastest 50-fly time in all of NCAA Division II in 2023-24. During his collegiate career, Krause qualified for the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships twice, helping the 200-freestyle relay finished 17th in the nation in 2022 and 18th in the nation in 2023. The computer science major put together a 3.84 GPA and finished his time as an Oredigger listed a total of five times in the program record book.

O'Grady's CSC Third-Team Academic All-American nod is the first of his career and adds to a 2023-24 campaign that saw him voted RMAC Academic Athlete of the Year. At the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships, the Englewood, Colo., native had Second-Team All-RMAC swims in the 200-fly and as part of the 800-freestyle relay. He added points to the team total in the 1000-free and 1650-free as well. During the regular season, O'Grady produced a NCAA "B" times in the 500-free, 1650-free, and 200-fly.
