2024 NCBWA All-South Central Region Teams

GOLDEN, Colo.
– Luke Folsom and Mason Andrews both earned all-region distinction from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) on Wednesday with Folsom earning honors at utility and starting pitcher while Andrews was recognized in the outfield.

Officially, Folsom was named NCBWA First-Team All-Region at the utility position. He was specifically recognized for his prowess on the mound with a NCBWA Second-Team All-Region nod at starting pitcher. Andrews was voted NCBWA Second-Team All-Region as an outfielder. Overall, 34 total athletes across the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and Lone Star Conference (LSC) were recognized as NCBWA All-Region with 17 on the first team and 17 more on the second team. Carson Ogilvie of Lubbock Christian was voted NCBWA South Central Region Player of the Year. Rawley Hector from UT Tyler claimed honors as the top pitcher in the region. Lubbock Christian's Nathan Blackwood was tabbed NCBWA South Central Region Coach of the Year. The teams were voted on by an eight-member committee with four representatives from each conference in the region.

Folsom's honors are the second postseason all-region awards granted by the NCBWA in his career after earning NCBWA First-Team All-Region at the utility position in 2022. He will advance to the 2024 ballot for NCBWA All-America. This season, Folsom earned First-Team All-RMAC as a starting pitcher and as an infielder. It makes him the first Oredigger since Nate Ollinger to earn a pair of First-Team All-RMAC nods in the same season. On the mound in 2024, the Littleton, Colo., native went 6-1 with a 4.87 ERA in 11 starts. He tossed two complete games including a nine-inning win in the RMAC tournament. Along the way, Folsom totaled 58 strikeouts compared to 16 walks. He anchored a staff that led the entire RMAC with an ERA of 6.52. The Columbine High School graduate ranked #1 among qualifying pitchers in the conference in ERA and opposing batting average. He was also top-10 in the conference in 11 other pitching categories. At the plate in 2024, Folsom batted .365 with 46 runs on 62 hits including 17 doubles and 11 home runs with 52 RBI. He also drew 24 walks and was hit 20 times for an on-base percentage of .486. After four years with the Orediggers, Folsom appears more than 20 times in the program record book. Those listings include, but are not limited to, #1 in single-season doubles, #2 in all-time doubles, and #5 in career home runs.

Andrews brings home the first all-region nod of his career. He was voted First-Team All-RMAC in the outfield earlier this month. The redshirt junior also earned NCBWA National Hitter of the Week on March 14, NCBWA Regional Hitter of the Week on March 13, and RMAC Player of the Week on March 12. For the season, Andrews batted .372 with 65 runs on 67 hits including 12 doubles and 17 home runs with 56 RBI. The McKinney, Texas, native turned in a .722 slugging percentage as well as a .498 on-base percentage courtesy of 29 walks and being hit 16 times. He stole 10 bases as well. In right field, Andrews had just two errors and came up with five assists while recording 95 putouts on 102 chances. His 65 runs rank #5 in Mines' record book and his 17 home runs are third-most in a single season by any Oredigger in program history. Additionally, Andrews' 17 long balls pushed him to 38 in his career which ranks #2 on the all-time list. With one season of eligibility remaining, the McKinney North High School graduate continues climbing Mines' all-time list in runs, doubles, RBI, walks, and many more.

As a team, Mines closed its season last week in the 2024 RMAC Baseball Tournament, eventually falling on Friday evening to Regis – one game shy of Championship Saturday. Any and all postseason awards for the Orediggers will be announced on social media and at www.minesathletics.com. Mines' signing class for the 2024-25 school year will be announced in the coming months as well.
