GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines wrestlers
Grayston DiBlasi and
Cody Thompson have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team for their academic and athletic performance in 2023-24.
DiBlasi earns the honor for the second consecutive season, while Thompson wins it for the first time. Both are mechanical engineering majors as academic juniors and served as co-captains for the Orediggers.
DiBlasi went 19-8 at 141 pounds, earning NWCA Scholar All-America and Honorable Mention All-RMAC honors as a junior. DiBlasi placed fifth at the NCAA Super Region VI Championships, and spent most of the 2023-24 season in the national rankings, peaking at #8.
Thompson had an outstanding season as a national finalist at 149 pounds, earning NWCA All-America and NWCA Super Region VI Wrestler of the Year honors. He was 25-3 overall, won the NCAA regional title, and was named NWCA Scholar All-America, First-Team All-RMAC, and to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll.
The duo were named to the At-Large Team, which combines candidates from a number of sports including fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling. All nominees must have a 3.5 or above GPA while holding sophomore or higher academic standing. They were joined on the At-Large All-District team by Mines golfers Lukas Taggart and Max Lange. Academic All-District recipients will go on to the ballot for the Academic All-America award, which will be announced July 17.
