GOLDEN, Colo.
- Hunter Potrykus is the Academic All-American of the Year to lead five Orediggers named to the men's cross country/track & field Academic All-America teams by the College Sports Communicators organization.

Potrykus, a pole vaulter, was joined as a first-teamer by hurdler Everett Delate and distance runners Duncan Fuehne and Loic Scomparin, and distance runner Logan Bocovich earned third-team honors.

Potrykus is the first men's track & field member to earn the Academic All-American of the Year honor since Mark Husted in 2010. Along with 2024 women's winner Zoe Baker, Mines sweeps the two major awards for the first time, and combined with Nolan Reeve receiving the same award for football this past fall, gives Mines Athletics three winners in the same year for the first time ever.

Potrykus, a 2023 Second-Team Academic All-American, continued to set records in the pole vault as a senior, becoming the RMAC's all-time recordholder in the event at 5.41m. He was a Second-Team All-American indoors with a ninth-place NCAA finish, and stood on the podium in seventh place to be a First-Team All-American outdoors. Potrykus won the RMAC championship in both seasons. He earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering in May and was named Mines' Presidential Senior Scholar-Athlete as the most outstanding graduate in the May 2024 class.

Delate, a first-time honoree, was a two-season all-American in 2024, placing fifth nationally in both the 60m hurdles indoors and 110m hurdles outdoors. The Mines recordholder in both events, he won the RMAC titles in both as well. Delate became the first Mines hurdler to ever podium in the 60m hurdles and was the first to do so in the 110m hurdles since 2000. Delate received his B.S. in Economics in December and is in graduate school working on a master's in Mineral & Energy Economics. He was named Mines' Presidential Senior Scholar-Athlete as the most outstanding undergraduate in the December 2023 class.

Fuehne, who was a 2022 and 2023 Academic All-American, was a three-season First-Team All-American in 2023-24, finishing 11th at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, seventh in the indoor 5,000m, and fourth in the outdoor 10,000m. The RMAC outdoor 10K champion was the conference's Academic Runner of the Year in cross country. Fuehne holds a B.S. in engineering physics from Mines and is working on a master's in applied physics.

Scomparin, a 2022 and 2023 Academic All-American, was the Orediggers' top finisher on the cross country course finishing eighth at the NCAA Championships in November. He went on to be the top point-scorer at the RMAC Indoor Championships winning the 5,000m and finishing second in the 3,000m and mile to lead Mines to the team title, then podiumed in both the 3K and 5K at NCAA Indoors finishing third and fourth, respectively. Scomparin, who redshirted the outdoor season, has a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering and received a master's in advanced energy systems in May.

Bocovich, a 2023 Academic All-District selection as an undergrad at St. Olaf, made an instant impact as a grad transfer with the Orediggers earning all-America honors in both cross country and outdoor track. Bocovich finished ninth at the RMAC Championships and 16th at the NCAA Championships in the fall, then after redshirting the indoor season, placed ninth in the 5K and 13th in the 10K at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after capturing the RMAC gold medal in the 5K.
