Academic All-America At-Large Teams
GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines wrestler
Cody Thompson has earned Second-Team Academic All-America honors as a member of the At-Large team from the College Sports Communicators organization.
A mechanical engineering major and co-captain for the Orediggers, Thompson is a first-time winner after he completed an outstanding redshirt sophomore season in 2023-24. It is the 10th time a member of the Oredigger wrestling program has received the Academic All-America honor, and the team has had at least one honoree in each of the last six years.
Thompson had a memorable season as a national finalist at 149 pounds, earning NWCA All-America and NWCA Super Region VI Wrestler of the Year honors. He was 25-3 overall, won the NCAA Super Region VI title, and was named NWCA Scholar All-America, First-Team All-RMAC, and to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll. Thompson's 15-match win streak through to the national final was the longest by an Oredigger this year, and he was an unbeaten 8-0 against the RMAC.
Thompson was honored on the At-Large Team, which combines candidates from a number of sports including fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling. All nominees must have a 3.5 or above GPA while holding sophomore or higher academic standing. Thompson was joined as an honoree by Mines golfer Lukas Taggart; they are the 26th and 27th Academic All-Americans of the 2023-24 season for Mines Athletics, which marks both the most in NCAA Division II this year and the most ever in a single year for the Orediggers.
