LAKEWOOD, Colo. -
Eric Casademont Vinyoles finished in the top 10 in his collegiate debut as Colorado School of Mines shot its best team round of the tournament to finish fourth at The Writz at Mile High.
The Orediggers were +8 at 296 on the challenging Bear Creek track, ending up at +32 for the tournament to finish fourth. #1 Colorado Christian ran away with the team title at -34 (-19 on Tuesday) to lead Colorado Mesa (+23), Valdosta State (+27), and Mines. The Orediggers beat out one team ranked in the GCAA pre-season poll - #20 CSU Pueblo - and finished ahead of another - UT-Permian Basin - that was receiving votes.
Casademont Vinyoles shot a 73 to wrap up a terrific +3 debut tournament, landing an eighth-place finish to be the top Oredigger on the board.
Colt Tenpenny and
Carter Lolli stayed close together on the leaderboard as Tenpenny finished with a four-over 76 to end up 12th at +9, and Lolli matched his freshman teammate with a 73 for the co-low Mines round of the day to rise to 13th at +10.
Lukas Taggart bounced back from a tough Monday to shoot 74 and end 36th at +23, while
Lucas Schulte was Tuesday's non-counting scorer with a 79 to end up 23rd at +15.
Among Mines' individuals,
Max Lange ended 13rd at +10 after a round of 78.
Charlie Tran came in 37th at +24 after an 80, and
Theodore Reitter was a spot and a shot behind him after a final-round 81.
CCU had the top three finishers individually led by Adam Duncan (-16), Sungyeop Cho (-12), and Sangha Park (-7).
Mines is back in action Sept. 30 at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, held at Colorado National in Erie.
