GOLDEN, Colo. - #16 Colorado School of Mines got its RMAC season off to a winning start, beating defending champion Chadron State 21-13 in a hard-fought dual at Volk Gym.

The Orediggers (7-1, 1-0 RMAC) won six of the 10 weight classes keyed by Christian Lopez's win over a ranked opponent at 125 pounds, #4 Grayston DiBlasi's pin at 141, and a dual-sealing overtime victory at 197 by #14 Ryan Cody. The Eagles (0-1, 0-1 RMAC) were in the dual until the penultimate bout, but only had bonus points in one of their four wins, which proved decisive.

Lopez set the tone immediately with a win over a top-10 opponent for the second straight weekend, beating #9 Hunter Jacobsen 10-7. Lopez trailed 6-2 midway through the bout, but had a second-period reversal, then a third-period takedown plus riding time to overcome Jacobsen. CSC leveled the dual after James Davis' 2-0 win against Trebor Moreno at 133, but DiBlasi's first-period pancake takedown to pin Cyrus Wells at 141 put the Orediggers ahead 9-3.

The Eagles got a win back at 149 pounds as Torry Early shut out Carson Dulitz 5-0, but Mines ran off three straight victories in the middle weights to take control of the meet. #9 Marcus Caro defended a first-period takedown to beat Brandon Parades 4-2 at 157, then Jakob Smith's counterattacking was on display in a 14-7 victory over Tayten Gillette at 165. #14 Wyatt Reisz extended the lead to 18-6 at 174 with his 5-0 blanking of Logan Berger. CSC stayed alive as #7 Keegan Gehlhausen scored late to make it an 11-2 major decision over Mason Diel, but the match of the night at 197 sealed the deal for Mines as Cody staved off Dominic Joyce in overtime with a takedown to win 8-5. The Eagles won at heavyweight 5-1 as Cody Pinkerton's reversal and nearfall topped Cade Whish.
