BOULDER, Colo. -
Everett Delate reset his Mines 60m hurdles record to lead a day of big track performances at the Colorado Classic in Boulder.
The Orediggers had numerous NCAA provisional and program top-10 results on Saturday as the indoor season got back into full swing. Delate provided Mines with its third program record of the weekend after
Kitt Rupar set the women's shot put and
Holden Murphy the men's weight throw marks on Friday.
MEN'S RECAP
Delate ran the nation's fastest 60m hurdle time of the season, lowering his own program record in his season debut with a 7.78-second finals performance. Delate, who ran 7.90 in prelims, is the only D-II runner under 7.8 seconds so far this season, and it was the second-fastest time in RMAC history, only a hundredth off the conference record.
The featured race of the day was the men's invitational mile where seven competitors - including
Loic Scomparin - would attempt to run the first collegiate sub-4:00 mile on Colorado soil. Three runners got under that historical mark as Scomparin ran a 4:05.64, which converts to a 3:59.54 at sea level and will be the NCAA D-II #2 time this season.
A week after running Mines' second-fastest 400m ever on the same track,
Jonah Fallon set the program #3 performance with his fourth-place 48.32 and freshman
Liam Currie jumped into the all-time top-10 at #8 with his 48.75 for fifth place.
Logan Meade with ninth in 49.65 with
Austin Schmidt 15th in 50.60,
Prince Owusu-Ansah 21st in 52.90, and
Waylon Weeks 22nd in 53.27.
Fallon would later lead the men's 4x400 relay to a meeting-closing win with the Orediggers' fastest performance since 2018, anchoring in an unofficial 46.9 split to clock 3:15.77 along with Currie,
Tim Thompson, and Meade. It was the sixth-fastest 4x400 in program history.
Thompson was second overall and the top attached runner in the men's 800m, running 1:52.68, while
Owen Schneider was ninth (1:55.46) and
Aiden Bram 13th (2:00.29). Mines' freshmen impressed in the 200m with three all-time program top-10 performances among them.
Tegan Daughters blazed to a seventh-place 22.11, becoming the third-fastest performer in Mines history, while Sehr's 22.71 and
Mark Leoni's 22.73 slot in at #7 and #8, respectively.
Jathan Busby debuted in 22.88 with Cedrun at 23.51, Weeks 24.21, and Owusu-Ansah at 24.28.
A number of Oredigger distance runners doubled in the mile and 3,000m, with
Paul Knight leading Mines in the open mile at 4:09.48, with
Logan Bocovich (4:10.09),
Dawson Gunn (4:11.63), and
Ethan Grolnic (4:11.74) right behind him; all of their times were NCAA provisional marks with conversion. Bocovich also headed up Mines' 3K effort with a second-place and NCAA-provisional 8:27.68, with Knight third in a provisional time of 8:28.62, Grolnic 10th in 8:37.62, and Gunn 12th in 8:47.40.
In the 60m hurdles,
Coulton Chan ran 8.45 for 14th, and
Nick Stade was 17th in 8.54 with
Jake LaFore debuting in 23rd and a time of 8.83 seconds. Sehr led Mines in the 60m dash with a 7.15-second 15th-place performance ahead of
Spencer Cedrun (17th, 7.19).
WOMEN'S RECAP
The Oredigger women had a smaller group on the track as their distance runners took the weekend off, but there were plenty of standout sprint results for a second straight weekend in Boulder.
Avery Wright ran her personal best in the 200m, finishing eighth in 25.51 to move to #3 all-time at Mines.
Maya Evans' 26.63 was good for 15th place.
Grace Galvin came close to her indoor PR in the 400m with a 57.73 clocking to finish fourth, a spot ahead of
Maya Evans whose debut in the event came in a time of 58.65, which immediately makes her 10th on the all-time program list.
Avary Catchings ran 2:16.81 for ninth in the 800m.
Lisa Sutherland led Mines with a third-place 9.03 in the 60m hurdles as
Allison Comer finished eighth in 9.40. Sutherland had run 9.09 and Comer 9.14 in prelims, with
Aani Hardesty 12th in 9.40.
The women's 4x400 closed the meet with a second-place 3:53.95, tops among D-II teams, as Wright, Sutherland, Comer, and Hardesty put together the #9 time in program history.
