The new year begins with two mats of wrestling action on Saturday as #16 Colorado School of Mines hosts the Jack Hancock Duals at Volk Gym. The one-day, four-team round-robin will feature the Orediggers along with #14 Central Missouri, Sioux Falls, and Belmont Abbey, with each team wrestling three duals at 12, 1:30, and 3 p.m. MT. The day's full schedule appears at the bottom of this article. Every dual on Saturday will stream live and for free on the RMAC Network. Live results are available from TrackWrestling.

ABOUT THE JACK HANCOCK DUALS
This weekend marks return of the Jack Hancock Duals, contested for the first time since 2008 and named in honor of the late Hall of Fame coach Jack Hancock. Mines' head coach for 37 years, Hancock built the Orediggers into a national power, finishing finished second in the 1961 NAIA Championships with 4 All-Americans and second in the 1964 NCAA tournament. In 1965 Mines hosted the NCAA College Division tournament and finished tenth. Mines was highly competitive at the NCAA level prior to 1963 when there were no divisions. During his tenure he produced 33 All-Americans and three national champions. Hancock is a member of the Mines, RMAC, University of Northern Colorado, and NCAA Wrestling Halls of Fame.

LAST TIME OUT
Mines had five placewinners on their way to a seventh-place team finish at the 45th Midwest Classic at UIndy on Dec. 15. In a field that included 19 ranked in the latest NWCA top-25, Mines finished an impressive seventh with 77.5 team points. Grayston DiBlasi led the way placing fourth at 141, with Cody Thompson (6th, 149), Marcus Caro (7th, 157), Wyatt Reisz (7th, 174), and Ryan Cody (8th, 197) also placing.

IN THE POLLS
Among this weekend's competitors, Central Missouri is ranked #14 and Mines #16, with Sioux Falls receiving votes, in the latest NWCA Division II rankings announced Dec. 23. Individually, the tournament features 10 ranked wrestlers: for Mines, #4 Grayston DiBlasi (141), #8 Cody Thompson (149), #9 Marcus Caro (157), #14 Wyatt Reisz (174), and #14 Ryan Cody (197); for Central Missouri, #3 Jakason Burks (125), #13 James Wright (133), #6 John Ridle (157), and #12 Damon Ashworth (184); and for Sioux Falls, #8 Beau Klingensmith (133).

OREDIGGERS HIT WINS MILESTONES
Grayston DiBlasi continues to move up the Mines all-time ranks in wins, sitting at 85-25 entering this weekend. He is only the 11th wrestler in program history to reach 80 career wins, and his .772 career winning percentage currently slots in fourth all-time in program history. Meanwhile, Christian Lopez hit the 50-win mark in December and is now 53-36.

BACK ON THE MAT
One of the highlights of the Rookie Open came when Yahir Chairez-Salazar made his return to the mat with a first-period win by fall at 149 pounds, marking another milestone in his incredible comeback story. A freshman who redshirted for both the wrestling and football teams in 2022-23, Chairez-Salazar was involved in a serious car accident in the summer of 2023 that caused an amputation of his left leg above the knee. Determined to keep wrestling, he got back on the mat earlier this year to train for his comeback - a journey that culminated barely 15 months after his accident with a return to the mat and a win. You can read more about Yahir's remarkable story here.

AT THE HELM
Head Coach Austin DeVoe is in his 12th season in charge of the Mines Wrestling program, having rebuilt the Orediggers into a national contender with a pair of RMAC titles, eight all-Americans, and eight Academic All-Americans in his tenure. With 80 dual wins under his belt, Mines has had seven consecutive winning dual seasons including the only three double-digit win seasons in program history, including tying the program wins record in 2022-23 with an 11-2 record. On the national stage, Mines has had team success as well including an 11th-place finish in 2022 which was the program's best finish since the 1990s.
