#16 Mines Goes 2-1 At Jack Hancock Duals

GOLDEN, Colo. - #16 Colorado School of Mines got 2025 off to a winning start, going 2-1 at the Jack Hancock Duals at Volk Gym.

The four-team round-robin tournament saw Mines bounce back from an opening loss to Central Missouri to defeat Belmont Abbey and Sioux Falls later in the day. The tournament, named in honor of the late Hall of Fame coach Jack Hancock, was revived for the first time since 2008.

#4 Grayston DiBlasi was the Orediggers' iron man on the day going 3-0 as he won his 88th career match to move into sole possession of fourth place all-time in wins at Mines. Christian Lopez, #14 Wyatt Reisz, and #14 Ryan Cody also went 2-0 for the day. 
 
 

#14 Central Missouri 27, #16 Colorado School of Mines 12

In a battle of ranked opponents, #14 Central Missouri came away with the day's opening win as they beat #16 Mines 27-12.

Christian Lopez's upset of #3 Jakason Burks at 125 pounds highlighted the dual as the pair went to overtime tied 1-1; in extra time, Lopez had was awarded a takedown on review to secure a 4-1 win. #4 Grayston DiBlasi won 7-1 over David Rocha at 141, and #14 Wyatt Reisz beat Garrett Deason 7-2 before #14 Ryan Cody won 15-8 over Brayden Dillow. UCM was tough everywhere else, though, getting a pin at 133 and more bonus points at 157, 184, and 285 pounds to put the dual out of reach.

#16 Colorado School of Mines 24, Belmont Abbey 20

Cade Whish's overtime win at heavyweight sealed a thrilling team battle as Mines held off Belmont Abbey to win the middle dual of the day, 24-20.

The Orediggers led 21-10 after 165 pounds, but the Crusaders won three straight bouts to set up a winner-take-all bout at 285 pounds with Mines leading 21-20. Trailing 1-0 entering the third, Whish gambled and chose neutral, and went on the attack to draw a pair of stall calls off shots against Justin Wright. That sent the bout to sudden victory where Whish scored the takedown to win 4-1 and seal the dual win.

DiBlasi won by tech fall over Will Cline 20-4, and Jaron Mahler dominated at 157 with a 16-2 major decision over William Nix before Jakob Smith pinned Caden Brandenburg. Mines also picked up an injury-default victory by Xander Sweeney at 125 that proved to be an important six points.

#16 Colorado School of Mines 26, Sioux Falls 21

Wins in three of their last four bouts sealed the tournament's final dual for Mines as they beat Sioux Falls 26-21. 

Despite a 15-0 tech fall by Lopez at 125 and DiBlasi's 4-1 overtime win at 141, Mines trailed 12-8 after four weight classes but got on the comeback trail thanks to #9 Marcus Caro's 15-2 major decision against Lincoln Fink. Reisz followed that up at 174 with a 12-5 win by decision, Avery Krippner won by injury default while ahead at 184, and Cody drew a 20-5 technical fall win over Steson Davis at 197 to wrap up the team win.

Sioux Falls earned bonus points in three of their four victories, with pins at 133, 149, and 165 pounds.
