Orediggers Trounce Mountaineers

GUNNISON, Colo.Abbie O'Shay and the Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team trounced over Western Colorado Saturday evening in a 3-0 road win.
 
O'Shay led all players in the match with 13 kills while hitting .571. She added three total blocks as well and only committed one attack error. Nine kills by Amanda Donais Dudley and Cadence McDonald's .500 hitting percentage were notable on the offensive end as well. On defense, Jenna McLaughlin matched O'Shay's three blocks while Jada Price and Francesca Nuzzo combined for 28 digs. At setter, Hailee Martinez coordinated the dominance by way of 36 assists, 10 digs, one block, and one kill on 1.000 hitting. Also notable Donais Dudley's 10 digs and two service aces off the hand of Naomi Romslo.
 
The victory propelled the Orediggers (14-4, 5-3 RMAC) to a modest, three-match winning streak. Western Colorado (1-17, 0-8 RMAC) dropped its 12th consecutive match. Mines has won five of its last six conference matches after starting RMAC play with an 0-2 record. The Orediggers found victory by hitting .304 as a team while limiting WCU to .087 on the attack. Mines touted significant statistical advantages with 57 points, 44 kills, five aces, eight total blocks, 41 assists, and 59 digs. The Mountaineers did commit fewer service errors than their guests.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game one was the closest set of the night. There was only one tie and one lead change. The tie came at 15-15 after a solo block by O'Shay. Donais Dudley handed Mines the lead with a service ace on the very next point. Despite a battle by Western Colorado, the Orediggers clinched a 25-22 win on Donais Dudley's fifth kill of the set. O'Shay also produced five kills on .625 hitting while tallying all three of her blocks.
 
The second set went to Mines by a 25-17 margin. O'Shay, McLaughlin, and Nuzzo each had three kills. Price, Martinez, and Nuzzo churned out five digs apiece. The final frame ended with a 25-16 score in favor of the Orediggers. O'Shay and McDonald teamed up for a total of 10 kills with just one attack error each. Eighteen total digs from Price, Donais Dudley and McDonald put the icing on the cake as Mines finished the sweep.
