GOLDEN, Colo. - The historic return of Oredigger diving and
Ava LaBrose's new pool record in the 200-freestyle highlighted Colorado School of Mines' Friday dual with Colorado College.
Mines won both sides of the meet as the men beat the Tigers 138-107, and the women 159-81.
Bruno Albertoni became the first Oredigger diver in competition in more than a decade, and he did so in record-breaking fashion winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. Albertoni put together a 3-meter series of 275.85 to start the meet, then scored a program-record 320.40 on his six 1-meter dives to win that event as well. His debut in the 1-meter broke former national champion Rick Williamson's six-dive score of 317.20 set in 1980.
Meanwhile, LaBrose broke another national champion's record as she won the 200-yard free in 1:53.62, slipping under Mia Wood's natatorium record of 1:53.96 set in 2019-20.
Women's event wins included
Anna Bream in the 400-IM in 4:32.75, and
Mikaela Khan took the 200-fly in 2:05.87, while
Jennifer Pierson touched first in the 100-free in 52.13.
Mary Flikkema was first in the 200-back in 2:08.02 after
Julie Gill won the women's 1,000-free in 10:41.48, and
Jordan Tierney was a double winner as her 59.13 won the 100-IM by more than two seconds, and she took the 100-breaststroke in 1:04.37.
For the men,
Joseph Lev-Tov took the 1,000-free in 10:17.52,
Mattie Oberley was first in the 200-fly (2:02.12), Vlad Kazakin won the 100-free by nearly two seconds in 46.70, and
Fausto Angelone Lopez out-touched a CC swimmer in a close 100-IM finish at 53.64.
The women's 400-medley relay won in 3:50.61, and the Orediggers capped off the night with wins in the 200-free relay with the men timing 1:24.29 and the women 1:36.93.
